I think a lot of it is a "West Coast" thing as the boats have much different styling, so a different image.

Hell, one of the best rough water Factory 1 boats had a 22* deadrise at the transom!

During the Cuba run from Key West there were a couple of 40ft skaters.

They beat all the V bottoms by hours. Now the V bottoms were almost all CC, but they had big power
capable of running much faster than they did.

It was really rough, just saying

Vee hull for life right here... need the space, can't afford to spend a chit load on a condo everywhere we go to run and not afraid to admit it. Would rather spend that money on fuel and dinners. Weekend warriors need the cabin space!

Vee hull FTW

Not normally, but some "can" look at old apache videos... 6-8 seas running 90-100.... But yes in actual rough water most going 60-70 that's when my mistress seems fun lol

This debate has 2 sides, Poker Run or Raceboats! Even in the roughest water, Lucas Oil's 48' vee does not come close to keeping up with the big MTI's and The super cats, running twin 750hp motors always beat Instigator or any of the 42' Super Vee Extreme (Super Vee extreme runs bigger cubic inch and HP than super cat). The cats ride much worse at lower speeds but once they get on top they are big enough to span them. This only seems to be true in racing, Why beat yourself to a pulp at a Poker Run?

I think this is the determining factor. When the big cats can get on top of the waves they are faster. When they can't they might as well stay at the dock.

Wasn't insinuating that anyone on this thread are not safe boaters, I hope they are because I'm on some Poker Runs riding right beside them. I guess the reason for the statement is I was on Lanier when four people lost their life last weekend, not a very good feeling.. I truly hope I didn't offend you are anyone else on this thread it was not my intension, just want all of my boating friends to be safe.

In my videos you can hear the concern in the crew's voices as we are coming out of the channel and entering into lake Michigan. I hadn't decided what we were going to do yet at this point but I know I wasn't going to turn around at the mouth of a busy channel and make other boats have to move around me and possibly cause contact. So I decided to go out a ways and scope the scene. After we were about a mile or so offshore we idled and talked it over. Everyone voiced their opinions and the crew made a decision AS A WHOLE to continue on. I never made a decision on my own to continue on without their approval, I want my crew to feel comfortable with me behind the wheel and sticks.

Personally on my own account, I would have never continued on to the card stops if the water conditions were beyond my driving ability or the conditions beyond what my boat is capable of, even if they wanted to. All of our life jackets were on, my lanyards were on and everyone gave the thumbs up. I continually checked on them after some of the rougher encounters and I still had the green light from them. The safety of my crew was #1 priority and I will always treat that as #1.

There was a 380 powerquest running in our proximity and I saw them come to a stop/idle twice and we came off our path to check on them and make sure they were good to go. There were no other boats in sight and I wanted to make sure they were safe as well.

I know not all of us have a famous or recognizable name but that doesn't mean that we don't know how to safely operate a boat, and this is nothing directed towards you, your comment just made me want to reply with a statement.

Safety is always #1, regardless of how "dumb" it may be. When we push the limits and run hard or in the rough, poker run or not, life jackets and lanyards are always on or the boat doesn't leave.

this debate isn’t even close imo….just watch the great race in the carribean. Total monster isn’t the reigning champion for nothing. 46 skater is a beast in big water and it isn’t close!!!
