the boat was on the trailer. my guess is he left the plug out thinking the boat would take on water from the rain, not the f'n thing going floating down the street.

brian18330-dont be to hard on yourself unless you have a crystal ball and can predict the future,i saw on the news they were calling it THE STORM OF THE CENTURY.if the plug was in the boat might have floated much farther and crashed into a brick building or something like that, either way the ins would have to pay.

Unfortunately insurance companies will probably make money from this like every other natural disaster because their first order of business will be to cover their azzets & cry to the govt to bail them out then raise rates and or deny coverage. When my house flooded from the missouri river flood last yr my ins told me that they wouldnt pay anything because it was man made & then tried to raise my premium on top of that. I hope everyone fairs well after this, Its a long road but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Randy

Had the plug been in it would have been worse were his boat was they had 5-6 feet of water above the road. As for insurance rates I really don't think his claim is going to make much difference because this is in the billions, like maybe 30 counting NY.

Thanks guys, just got off the phone with the insurance company. They said to simply said they pay off estimates. She said if it's a total loss I still have to take it to a marina for an estimate. She said an adjuster won't even come out. Once they let vehicles in I'll get it, just don't know if I should bring it somewhere in Jersey or by me in PA. PA won't be as busy but they won't have the experience with what saltwater can do.

ok from the before post and now this post i would be concerned if the insurance will even cover your boat..if they read all the posts that may now be tracked with you saying that you knew the storm was coming and that you parked it in front of your house and even tho you said you had a broken brake line the boat could have been mover to higher ground with a friends truck and the boat would not have been damaged but instead you mentioned ''oh well if the boat gets damaged ill just call my insurance company''.. then i believe you called them asking if it would be covered which throws up a red flag..Good luck to you and i hope the best..

I Know I`m the bad guy, see I care about my stuff, first thing I would have done is get my ass to the boat and move it inland before the storm showed up, regardless of plug or not. I know that makes too much sense, its easier to sit on your couch and then collect some insurance $$$.
I`m not sorry about your loss at all because it could have been prevented, this was not a no warning Tsunami.
Oh really!? Were you not getting the same news we were here?? People were getting evacuated, yeah that means its just going to rain hard DE DE DEEEE!!

If you read the OP's original thread on the subject, he did make an effort to rescue/ move the boat prior to the storm. Due to trouble with his tow vehicle he was unable to tow said boat to his residence in a neighboring state. The OP did what he could to get his boat out, he did not "sit on his couch" waiting for a handout.
Frankly, it is not possible to fully prepare for a storm of this magnitude. (Unless you have the resourses to build a concrete bunker)
To the OP, sorry for your loss, you obivously "care about your stuff" and did what you could to prepare. Good luck to you and everyone else who is dealing with the aftermath of this terrible storm.
