During the weekend, I never ran in a boat that went over 100mph. They could have, but didn't.
And, the winner of the poker run was:
First Place: Julie & Wayne Casey from ONT 39' Cigarette V UNRULY CREW II with 2 Mercury Racing total hp: 1400hp
Second Place: Brian & Tammy Farley from NY 36' Cigarette V GLADIATOR 2 Mercury Racing total hp: 1050hp
Third Place: Matt Powers from KY 38' Nor-Tech V NOR-TECH with 2 Mercury Racing total hp: 1050hp

I will not respond on this forum anymore beyond this. You all know how to reach me.
Furthermore, I don't guess, speculate, or run with opinion. I evaluate, measure and demonstrate with real statistics and measurable performance. Just like I did throughout my entire Coast Guard Career. I don't have an ego about any of this, I have proven results and accomplishments that are recordable.
If this guy was a true "hot rodder" he would be sharing his wealth of knowledge with everyone.

We ran into this same situation after Desert Storm. The question is whether the insurance companies will get the joke (when reading before OR after a huge crash in a poker run.) I get that you are trying to have fun. But for the people like myself who make their living in this sport and for the people who just love the sport, these online "race/poker run" threads may have unintended consequences.

That all being said I'd be happy to have a civil, non bashing, free exchange of ideas with you right here on OSO about that very subject.
The reality of it (from my view point) is this.. "Some" poker runs around the country have a bit of a friendly competition to get to CS1. Other events do not have that vibe.. If an event has that kind of vibe to it (which I have no idea of the FPC event does or doesn't as I wasn't there), then the problem isn't with the media outlet that covers the story, nor is the problem with the people that are interested in discussing it online. As I put it after Desert Storm last year, "We didn't put the elephant in the room" we simply said "Anybody else seeing this elephant in here?" Which could lead down a hole different rabbit hole of conversations, is that friendly competition even actually a problem? In my eyes it isn't, but like I said that's a conversation for another time. Jim is pushing hard each year to get that elephant out of the room, and push it more towards the shoot out, and each year he makes a little headway towards that goal.
I will also say that I consider Jim a friend (and I don't use that word lightly in the marine world), and I would never intentionally do anything to cause him any trouble or hurt his event. I had several phone calls with him last year, and we discussed different positions on the subject, in a friendly and open conversation. I know where he's coming from, and he knew where I was coming from. I told him that this year for Desert Storm RDP is going to put it's efforts elsewhere in the event, and not be flying multiple helo's and doing live feeds etc.. I came up with a rough outline of this years plan, and ran it by him, and will continue to work with Jim into the future for the betterment of the event, and the enjoyment of my members that go to it and share the fruits of that labor with the other media outlets in a possitive, hopefully non "spammy" way that other members and even moderators etc.. will enjoy, and not feel "threatened" by etc. I think we have done a good job of that balancing act in the past, it is not easy.
That all being said, while I can see how that sentiment of "racing and poker runs" could be applied to this thread, it's certainly now how it was intended or meant.
For years I have been reading on OSO that DCB wouldn't run their boats in the salt.. That DCB's could never hang with a skater. That DCB's wouldn't <gasp> dare to enter an east coast run, and on and on and on.. 95% of it is just guys ribbing each other, and I'd assume 5% of it is legit "haters."
The thread was just a little return "joke" with a photo that said "What happened?" and it certainly wasn't meant to be taken too seriously, and for the most part I feel was absolutely light hearted and fun until the "fun nazi" showed up and took his ego out of his head and started beating his chest with it.. Which is something I'm going to address him about in the next post.
