One month from now I'll be rolling south to go pick up my Active Thunder in Pompano and will be spending a couple days floating around down there.
Any suggestions for marinas to stay at, restaurants/bars to visit in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami? Probably be launching in Pompano and leaving the truck and trailer while we harbor-hop to the south...
Also, will I need to get reservations for slips in those places?
Thanks,
mike

It makes no sense to say that Ft. Lauderdale is all "no wake". It's not that Ft. Lauderdale is all "no wake", it's that the intracoastal canal in SE Florida is "no wake". It doesn't matter if you are in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale, if you are in the intracoastal you have to go slow. There are no speed restrictions south of Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami but now you are no longer in the intracoastal you are in Biscayne Bay. You can get away with opening it up between government cut and haulover in the intracoastal even though it is technically slow speed (<30mph) because it is more open space, however lately they have been ticketing for noise in that area. Let's not forget there are no speed restrictions in the ocean, so if you want to open it up just run the ocean. You have the right idea about ducking into Lauderdale and idling to the restaurants, lots of great choices for restaurants, tons of boats, and even the scenery is nice in the canal especially if you are not from the area. Some of the inlets can be tricky, send me a pm and if I'm around I'll take the boat out and you can follow me.

Take your boat right to Grove Harbor marina, They keep a lot of hardware there, they can do short term rack storage and deal with your trailer, great bunch of people and awesome service with in and out storage, I use then 3 to 4 times a year, they are a 10 minute drive from south Beach, By water you can get to open water with in a minute or 2, go north to miami beach, straight out to the ocean or head south to elliot key or key largo, Use a good gps with pre loader charts and you will have a great time boating

Hey Sommer, You got the right idea dropping in, at Pompano. You get a nice run south to Fort L. Pull in at Port Everglades turn right and your at the 17th st bridge which is where the Marriot and Hyatt 66 is. AS well as the canal with the Southport raw bar and the 15st Fisheries is. If you putt up a little further the New River is towards the left where the Riverwalk, Las Olas is and Shirtale Charlies is a little further up the river. If you bear right instead of the New River you head toward the the eastern end of Las Olas and the Muni marina and the back side of the beach. Get a slip for the night somewhere. Get your bearings during the day, then take the boat out at night for dinner somewhere. As a northerner myself I love taking the time by water to enjoy the sights( Mansions, boats, girls.) not necessarily in that order. Then buzz back to Pompano the next day. Check out the Port Everglades web cam site. They have a cool satalite shot of the area. I hope we see pics. B
