How about the outer limits that blew apart and almost killed Dick lazarra ? It was only going 70-75 and blew apart. The pic of the skater is a crack. The OL that blew apart couldn't be fixed. Big difference. Also Nigel's OL boat spun going straight blew apart and sank. In flat water. Lol

Actually, speed is relative, or it would be meaningless.
The surface of the earth at the equator moves at a speed of 460 meters per second--or roughly 1,000 miles per hour.
The earth is moving about our sun in a very nearly circular orbit. It covers this route at a speed of nearly 67,000 miles per hour.
In addition, our solar system--Earth and all--whirls around the center of our galaxy at some 490,000 miles per hour.
In your case speed would be relative to a fixed point on Earth

Puts it in perspective. Now we can talk about 5mph.

All the talk of boats breaking up is not really relevant to the original question posed. Layup any boat light for racing and it can break. Thats why the old racing cigarette and apache race boats ( resin buckets) are still around today they weight on average 12 to 15 thousand pounds where these new race boats wieght 8 to 10 thousand pounds . They just can't sustain the pounding in the big water .
But I digress even though I am not necessarily a Fountain fan the record is still the record .

The skater cracked in half, the OL won the malta race. I think this is just a continual attack on Outerlimits. It's annoying to read over and over.
FOUNTAIN DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE...
The company went out of business.
Outerlimits is still in business, skater wants to claim OL stole the step design, the 42 was around allot before the skater vee was and proved it's stripes. I'm glad the skaters run so well they must be selling like hot cakes right?
Give it a rest...
Not to mention people whining about Fountain running 140 on 1075s..that's a 42 *ahem 38ft* boat....put 1075s in a 44 OL and it runs 140, larger boat vs smaller boat. The 52 running 145 with 1350s is a beautiful combination, it's also 52 FEET....try doing accurate comparisons.
I fail to see the comparison, apparently you'll never satisfy some people. The few Outerlimits that did have issues, I can recall a certain red boat with monster power, that the owner took into a 8ft barge wake at 140mph...I'd like to see what other boats do flying over that....
OL's run, the owners know they run, and I personally will not ever run 120 in another hull again, and anyone who's driven or been in one, knows it's one of the safest boats to go high speed in.
That's my .02cents. To all the people saying go for the record, yes it may stand, you want to see a record, put up the 25k for the Kilo, the money for the motors, safety, to pull one number out of something...go for it....it ain't cheap...and what will it get you, a bunch of people crying about how the number isn't real.
These threads go no where and it's just a waste of time to drag it out with bench racing for 43 pages...
