Alex Bay speeding ticket
Am i the only one who got popped in the 30 zone between the light houses? they got me for 43 in a 30.
|
i think i saw you get your ticket. were you heading north towards alex bay just about to go under the bridge?? i was heading towards clayton right after i got pulled over by STARSKY and HUTCH and given a loud exhaust award. oh and i got another ticket for a 100lb kid not wearing a child life jacket rated for 90lbs. and i got another ticket for my registered in NY til september of 2013 boat i just bought(which im still waiting for a lien release on) being "unregistered" since i am not the one it is still registered to. then when we went to bolt castle to take a tour we were greeted by customs drilling us like we were a bunch of drug smugglers. got right in my face like i was a criminal " where were you today" what do you have on board" how much have you been drinking"
i must say the poker run was very nice. it was great to meet some new faces to put with the screen names. check out some awesome boats. but to be totally honest for the money we spent to go there, fueling up at the local gas station, buying booze at the local liquor store, 6 rooms at the edgewood resort, breakfast, lunch , and dinner at the local resturants, paying for dockage at the hotel. Even tho we did not enter the run which was just simply cus an extra grand wasnt something i could swing this weekend. I am not in a hurry to go back. the local COWBOYS really pissed on my expensive to me weekend. and everywhere i looked someone else minding their own business was getting pulled over. it felt like just because we had a go fast boat up there for the poker run weekend it was a trap for the local law enforcement to make a paycheck. i felt i supported the local alex bay economy as best i could without the local authorities sticking it up my a$$. |

same for me... since a couple years, I simply don't go where are the poker runs for this reason! They don't want us anymore, read between the lines they don't need us! They don't have any slow down in their local economy...
|
We did the run last year but not this year for the entire fee you don't get much I understand poker runs America has to make money but they didn't know that we broke down leaving the lunch stop no body seemed from poker runs America seemed to care or notice that we didnt make the rest of the card stops I know we don't have a big skater but it would have been nice to see a little hospitality in that since I have also heard of people getting harassed over noise right around the bridge and I know fishing has become a pain in the but you technically have to call in every time you go fishing you can't even use american worms to fish in Canada but we love boating up there you can ride around all day and not see the same thing twice if been boating the thousands island ever since I was born 18 years ago this will be the 3rd with the sonic and there's still places I would love to go it should definitely be on everybody's boating bucket list !

How many boats registered this year ??
Did Myway show up ? |
Like I said I wasn't there but I read on Facebook that My Way wasn't present
|
27 boats registered for the run. My way was a no show
|
You were not the only speeding ticket, I know a small Trick cat got a ticket for 60 and a certain red canopied 'GO-FAST' vee got a ticket for running at the century mark through the bay. That pass was made on Thursday and he received his paper on Friday.

I was Driving the Trick.

Gone are the days of 150 plus in the 1000 Islands |
i think the cost of the runs is driving the average joe away. lots of boats up there to watch but that number is dwindling fast due to the extra law enforcement brought in for the weekend
|
I also got tagged, and I am always up there. Thought 40 ish was ok, cause it usually is and 30 is near impossible in any go fast. He left a boat pulled over and waved me down as I went by. He has some amazing "in head" radar cause he said he got me at 50 in a 30....I did not see a radar gun. Made me follow him back out of the channel a half mile at 15 mph, which was nose high for me. I asked him not to tie his piece of sh!t boat to mine but he insisted. He tied the front rop tight and left the back loose, which I told him was wrong. So the girls had to sit on the bow and hold his boat away. Did a full inspection of all safety gear and wrote me for being short one life vest as well.
I don't mind the tickets, but one cop was actually mad and I thought I was leaving in cuffs at one point. Must be someone ruined his day and he thought a boat capable of doing 90+ was being a scofflaw running 40 mph? The bad attitude was just a bonus I guess. I normally pay my tickets, but this time I will pay a lawyer twice as much to not support their efforts. Fewest boats I have ever seen at that run. Thinking the NYC run pulled some of the crowd? |
i got the lady cop, Virginia Keely. Miss personality her self, i am fighting the ticket as well because i was running side by side with a buddy, we both got stopped and her did not get a ticket, i got one for 43 in a 30. I have the whole thing on tape.

I am in western NY and have been thinking that Alex. Bay should be on my short list of new boating areas to try. Now I am thinking of removing it from the list. It appears not to be performance boat friendly.

While you guys in the Trick were getting ticketed we watched some 21 or so foot Formula make repeated WFO passes through the bay trimmed loose and on the edge of control. Only way he got away with it was ALL of the law was waiting down at the bridge to snag somebody .
That Formula was the biggest danger to public that we saw all day and he pulled it off right in their (what should be) focus area with all the tour boats and such. A close second would be the Canadian tour boat that about ran over Brian's 38 Fountain as it sat waiting for the poker run to come back through. |
How can you clock a boat? I know radar gun, but there is to many factors on water if your shooting radar from a boat.
The local law is always friendly down here for our runs. They like the revenue it bring and try not to bother anyone unless you just need to be straitened out for being a dumb a$$. |
They even pulled over Aqua Mania's G3 CC triple engine chase boat over near the TI bridge on the run back from Clayton, but it looked like they let them go once they realized who they were.
|
We got stopped between the lighthouses but told them we were following Hugetime who told us the speed limit was 45mph so we negotiated ourselves a warning!
My 1st trip to the bay, always heard good things about the area & the run. I didn't participate in the run just took advantage of the timing to make sure my boat was in tip top shape since I had it brought there to be sold. IMO from the outside looking in & having participated in many other non-PRA events I felt as if th $650 entry was steep & even steeper based on the fact there wasn't any helicopter for pics or video. The sad part is that between the marine police & City of Alex Bay they so don't get the big picture of the $$$ & business the PR brings to town. Instead they prefer to rule w/ their guns & badges, leaving a bad experience for those of us who haven't been before. |

Y'all come to Norolk, Va for Powerboating for a Cure poker run. You will be welcome, nice sized event, this year we are expecting 70 - 75 boats.
Good value for you money too. Www.mapacharity.org |
There have been incidents in the 1000 islands in the past , some on poker run weekends.
The police I'm sure are being told to ramp it up by the locals. That neighbourhood smells of $$$$$$$. Take a look at some of the places along there. I've been to drivers meetings there on more than one occasion where the local police stood up and said we weren't wanted. |
Unfortunate. That may be the residents position but maybe they ought to ask the food, beverage & retail owners!!
|
Received my "welcome to Alex bay" message about 8 yrs ago. Light house to light house 35 mph they had the sound meter out too but let that one ride.

And the fact that we fill the bars until 2 am doesn't seem to have much pull in any argument. |

What was the boaters reaction to that?
Actually, you could hear a pin drop when it was said. It's their turf so it was prudent to sit and listen. I can't remember how many police authorities are represented there but it's more than a couple. Back when more than 100 poker run boats went through there it was a big deal and important to pay attention to routes and slow zones. There were a couple of years when people forgot it was a poker run and broke every long standing rule for that area. Half the grief was self inflicted. If you don't know that area you can find yourself speeding in areas you would never think we're restricted. |
We're heading in August for the Kingston Run, just to watch though. Are these areas marked so you know what speed limit you should be obeying?
Not sure how excited I am anymore to spend 5-days up there and get harassed. |
Video coming soon
|
the only reason i knew what the speed limit was is because the officer told me after i got pulled over for my noise violation. the speed limits are not marked so do some research. lighthouse west of bridge to light house in alex bay is 30 mph during the day and 15 at night. dont know any others tho

+1, I asked where the signage was & they are like 36" sq signs on the shore line that at 1/4mi away look like some sort of real estate sign. On a waterway that wide one wouldn't see those signs peripherally. I straight up told the popo that I was acustomed to signage in the water on sticks, bouys & bridge supports (like the ICW) he said there are signs everywhere (shoreline) & it's on every chart. (ok he got me there, I didn't look at any chart to navigate a North / South river).

If you don't know that area you can find yourself speeding in areas you would never think we're restricted. Same thing happened at Daytona Poker run a few years ago. FPC had a run there for a few years but one year it was insanity, boats running 100 mph in the ICW, 3-4 boats wide, passing outside channel markers etc......in sections that pass normally quiet ICW homes. Enforcement went from zero to zero tolerance. FPC eventually took that event off their calendar. |
What would be consequence for an American who got a Canadian side ticket and just didn't pay it?
