looseconnection 12-02-2013 07:44 PM

During college by pops bought a 27 foot wellcraft coastal. Each time out I spent atleast 30 minutes sorting thru birds nest of wires finding loose connections. We named the boat loose connection and the rest is history.

Biggus 12-02-2013 07:54 PM

Was a member of the original board back in the late 90's. If you can believe it, back then OSO was a mad house, free for all. Totally rediculous. Who remembers??? Lost interest until '01 or so when Audiofem talked me into checking it out again. Forgot my old screen name, everything I punched in was taken. Had just watched Monty Python's Life of Brian. After all others failed. "Biggus Dikkus" had stuck. -Was Biggus Dikkus for a while, then lost the surname. lol!

phragle 12-02-2013 08:10 PM

Back in the wonderfull mid 80's I had lots of big poofy wannabe rockstar blonde hair. One of the girls in our group of friends told me if I died my hair pink I would look like a fraggle, and if I died by hair pink she would do me. I told here my hair was not going to be pink, but she could blow me if she wanted. Anyways another friend overheard the conversation and I have been called fraggle from then on. Just spell it phragle to avoid copyright infringments

Tinkerer 12-02-2013 08:25 PM

Can't leave anything stock. (BMW is still stock) Best friend named my first boat Tinker Toy years ago when I was away from it. The name kind of stuck.

Gladhe8er 12-02-2013 08:31 PM

I think if I wrote what my name means, OSO would make me change it. Not too hard to figure out though...

Nate5.0 12-02-2013 08:54 PM

Name and have had quite a few 5.0 mustangs before I got into boats.....now no more fast cars lol.

Maybe I should change to Nate358

Bobthebuilder 12-02-2013 09:13 PM

Built homes and communities in Canada for 25 years and am now semi retired. At the time I joined OSO my g'kids enjoyed the cartoon character and was surprised it was available to me as a screen name. Oh, yes my name is Bob. LOL

thirdchildhood 12-02-2013 09:15 PM

I kind of suck at picking user names. I'm Carl C on other forums. Anyway, you know, men go through a second childhood at mid-life and I'm like, sh!t, I'm on my third childhood and I guess that now that I'm almost 60 I am on my fourth because I listen to dubstep and hip-hop and like to dance with girls all night and drive my pair of Mustang GTs and I love to drive my little Donzi fast on the Great Lakes .............

Cash Bar 12-02-2013 09:21 PM

Got my first 29' Fountain while I was still bartending. Figured I should name the boat after how I paid for it. Cash Bar was born. And stuck.

About once a year I go back to my early posts and threads just to see how much I have learned, or how much of an azz I was. It makes for interesting reading for sure. 11 years and counting.

314joey 12-02-2013 09:21 PM

Years ago myself and 5-6 of my friends were in Vegas, no one wanted to use real names, so all of us were "joey" and from then on we all called each other joey, joey was taken so I added the 314 St. Louis area code to it to be OK with OSO and the rest is history, on some other boards I'm just joey.........................real name is Jim

Cash Bar 12-02-2013 09:28 PM

Similar thread from 2011.

Good reading.

Scagburner 12-02-2013 09:55 PM

I'm the long time president of the Scagburners Snowmobile Club in Central PA. The club was chartered back in the early 70's when the ski "runners" or "carbides" were referred to as "scags" hence the club name of Scagburners.

Expensive Date 12-02-2013 10:25 PM

Name of first boat, Boat got her name after Wife and I went to the Atlantic City boat show kinda on a "Date" ended up buying my 292. On the way home asked wife what should we name it. She said why don't you call it "Expensive Date"

Padraig 12-03-2013 05:50 AM

My other expensive hobby is raising and showing dogs, Irish Wolfhounds. Years ago on a Irish Wolfhound mail list I started using Padraig as there were three others Pats. Padraig's Cu, Irish for Patrick's Hound, is my Kennel name.

mysweetone 12-03-2013 06:02 AM

mysweetone has three meanings...
-my nick name for my wife
-the boat looks "sweet"
-song from Phish that the wife and I very much enjoy.

Unlimited jd 12-03-2013 06:11 AM

First go fast was a 23' stingray in "arrest me red" that boat took a beating! Way too small and light for my area and driving habits.
"Lil Red" that simple

sommerfliesby 12-03-2013 06:12 AM

Last name = Sommer. (Sort of) fast boat = Flies By. Plus, its a cool double entendre, because that season does seem so very short here in Chicago...

letterrip 12-03-2013 06:13 AM

Mine was a play on my business / occupation....lettering... Fleet graphics company owner.

We joked that there would be a lot of riped letters along the way of having a $ boating habit !

So when I named the boat some friends said to play on that... Hence "lettettrip" dual play on words & boat name & screen name.

brian41 12-03-2013 06:16 AM

Brian is my name and I was 41 when I joined OSO the first time when the site first started, I was Brian_41 then but somehow lost it and had to resign up as brian41 in 2002. I am 55 now......damn 14 years of putting up with you guys, thats longer than 3 of my marriages.

fountain27ho496 12-03-2013 07:01 AM

Mine is obvious....when I was lurking I wondered what people owned while reading posts. I didn't want anyone to wonder.

bigredbaja 12-03-2013 07:18 AM

Mine is not very creative i'm and Indiana University grad thus the "Big Red" and i had wanted a Baja since i was a kid growing up on Lake Monroe in Southern Indiana. Finally got it (and sold it) and my obsession with boats was on again.

KCHOTBOAT 12-03-2013 08:35 AM

Back in 98 the same month I picked up my new boat it was featured in HotBoat mag. Later that spring the first time at LOTO the boat caught on fire.

AroraborialisII 12-03-2013 08:53 AM

Mine was the name of our family's boat Aroraborialis always spent summers in the Thousand Islands and occasionally in late August would catch glimpses of the Northern Lights (aroraborialis) from Welesley Island

low_psi 12-03-2013 08:57 AM

low_psi:

PSI = Pounds per square inch, measure of pressure. So low_psi = low pressure. This was the original license plate I had on a fully custom 2001 Blazer Xtreme that was slammed to the ground on air bags, hence low pressure. This was the user name I used on other forums as well. The truck had a nasty small block in it and later the plate was changed to V8BLAZR. Damn I miss that truck...

olredalert 12-03-2013 09:18 AM

----Picked "Olredalert" when I first started out on different forums. My SS/DA 70 Chevelle was named "Red Alert" and I had recently sold it, so I used olredalert just about everywhere. Im old, my brain is mush and I figured Id forget other names if I switched around.......Bill S

I am more of glutton than that... I have been married to my 4th wife for 16 years with 2 young daughters now its "cheaper to keep her".

92nsx 12-03-2013 09:25 AM

The car I drove in High school (1992 Acura NSX), and this "internet" thing was getting popular. 92nsx was the only screen name I could think of at the time. **** we didn't even own a digital camera back then.

All I have left of the car now is 3 old photos... Sold it my second year of college. Couldn't afford it any more :( But hell did I have fun back then..............

A couple photos I dug out of ma's box of photos.
