OK, not disagreeing with you but what makes Formula in the same class as Ciggerette and Fountain? I get Checkmate, Baja and Sunsation are in a different group but perhaps you could explain the nuts, bolts and fiberglass difference that makes Formula so special.

A boating system of castes and class statutes? What is this old world Europe?

People vote with their checkbook. The rest is just internet banter; especially the folks that portray and talk like they possess and own a boat; when really their parents do--if at all.

I like Formulas but they need to be updated:

1. Fairing option (other than a windshield as it makes boat look conservative)
2. Paint- Stop with the factory paint jobs, very cheesy from spiderwebs to lightning bolts.
3. Staggered power would be a nice option

Formula has heritage dating back to Don Aronow and actually only sold once to the Porter family that still owns it today after 30+ years. Cig has sold multiple times. Formula has some race heritage like Cigarette though both fall very short of Fountain's accomplishments on the race course.

OK, for me I looked at a 2000 Formula with a single 454 27' foot cuddy. Nice boat, great ride but not what I would call a go fast. I run on a deep water lake, so the weight and ride is not worth the speed sacrifice.

I went with a 496 HP 2013 motor in a newer Baja for less money and 15 more MPH. Ride is not an issue were I run.

Now if I was running 3 digit speeds, ride would be a bigger concern.

One of the people that most likely has more seat time on multiple different brands is Tres Martin. However being in the industry, appealing to all different owners and builders, I tend to think that he would inteligently, keep his opinion out of this feed.

"How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop.....the world may never know".

He actually designed the bottom on the Sunsation 36! His politically correct answer would be: "I like them all!"

I don't want to spend a fortune and I want a reliable turn key boat that runs on marina gas, so my next boat might be a Fountain with twin 525's. Will I get close to 3 digit speeds?

But this thread is about opinions. Some may like Baja because of the old school non-stepped hull. Sunsation boats are definitely in the same league as other go-fasts. Maybe that is a Michigan Secret. Formula is a top notch Aronow brand with up-scale cabin and features and still decent cruising speed. The new Checkmate (27?) looks nice but we don't know much about them yet. Formula makes an exceptional boat. But no..I don't feel that Sunsation is in the same league as Outerlimits , Nor-tech, and Cig. Just my opinion

Formula is very much in the game. I spoke recently with a man that owned a Formula 382 FasTech as well as a Cigarette 39 Top Gun. I asked what he saw and felt as the differences. He told me since his had the same power (Twin 700 HP Merc Racing) with a blindfold on they feel and ride so closely to each other that he could not tell the difference. In his view the Formula was a dressed up button down collar version of the Cigarette with the Cigarette being closer to the un compromised offshore racing boat...in comparing the two.

As far as sheer top end speed...he gave it to the Cigarette only due to the weight difference. In the long haul he told me you will arrive more rested and less beat up in the Formula.
