I don't recall who pier 57 referred me when I bought my boat from them in chitown. But it was a very detailed survey.

I am sorry you feel this way.

Your friend you are referring to bought a 1984 419 Formula from us in February 2012.

When he bought boat he knew it was sold as is on consignment and came and inspected the boat. It was very cold and he did not run on lake only hoses.

When he bought boat he knew that the owner we were selling for had the motors gone thru which we disclosed but we did not contract or have anything to do with the rebuild and were selling on consignment. Everything was handled by owner of boat in terms of rebuild. The boat and trailer was purchased for not much more than you are claiming we screwed him for as an FYI.

About a month after he bought boat he contacted Greg Weber at our office to tell him how happy he was with boat. In December 2013 this month almost 2 years after he bought boat he sent us threatening letter re: his motors needing work but yet we have not heard anything for almost two years.

His boat is almost 29 years old and motors were rebuilt two years ago. I explained to your friend that the boat did not and does not have a warranty and also gave him name and email of customer that had engines that we sold boat for to see if he wanted to contact him.

We are sorry he had a few problems. It was and is a nice boat that will always need some work.

We work hard to do what's best and goodwill a lot, not everything and in this situation, there was nothing else we could do.

Regards,

Scott Sjogren

Used boats are like used cars sold as is The buyer has the responsibility to inspect and verify before purchasing
Price generally reflects age and condition
Had a a slight issue with a consignment boat and Alan went over and above to resolve it. Immediately!
First class operation in a very challenging environment

Very good reply. Their is always two sides to every story and I believe it does show that you truely care about the customer and your reputation with a response like this. Me being in the car business I see this all time. At some point people have to take ownership and responsibility of the items they purchase and I would say two years would be plenty long enough to do so!

Scott and his staff at Pier 57 are very professional, extremely honest and a real pleasure to do business with!

Last year, I negotiated a deal on a 2010 38' Fountain and flew to Chicago to inspect/demo the boat. Upon my arrival, the weather was horrible (cold, windy & raining), but Scott still towed the boat 30 minutes to a small lake for a quick demo run in the crappy weather. After running the boat, I realized it was not the right fit for me, so I decided to pass.......But the boat was 100% as advertised in every way. Scott was very understanding of my decision and said he hoped to sell me a boat in the future.

A couple of months ago, I ended up buying a 2008 38' Top Gun from Scott. He made the entire process very easy and problem free.......An overall enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend Scott and his entire team at Pier 57 to anybody!!

Very professional and well explained post. Customer relations are what build or teardown a business. 2 years after the purchase is beyond reasonable, some buyers weigh on the mentality that I can bring anything back at anytime for compensation even if its my own oversight.

What was "not right" if you don't mind me asking?
