Since there really wasn't Sterling 557" 1450's then..... They were PSI supercharged, our dual CuNi intercoolers, 18++psi of boost, 7000rpm, 116 octane.... They were all of 1550+ and more HP. The boat was purpose built, extremely light and was very fast. What Reggie and his team did at the time was quite amazing, but records are made to be broken.

The mold is "canopied" and there's been just as many canopied built as non. It is in fact a production boat, minus a cabin. Got 5 leather upholstered seats, stereo...etc

And it still didn't make the podium !
Mercury transmission failed, only reason they lost while in the lead. Year before, broke the crank pulley that held 8mm pulley off. Dominating both times. And to be clear, this year Twisted Metal won with there Whipple Charged Mercury Racing engines, not Instigator.

Its amazing that people keep posting this crap. Motors failed, unbelievable. They came with some massive power, made some testing runs and believe me, it far exceeded the record, but the engines didn't make it so Fountain broke the record by themselves. To note, the Sterlings ate themselves as well due to not having water at 170mph but it made it through the kilo both directions so they've had the record. That's racing. But saying stupid stuff like a tail between there legs is flat out incorrect and disrespectful.

So the Ol test past back then "far exceeded the record" and Fountains Sterlings "ate themseleves" but made a 177 mph pass and a 171 mph pass with shredded motors... Talk about posting crap!!!

QL didn't have 1550 s, pretty sure they were race crafters and like 1800hp. put I could be wrong. . race crafters like SL motors would not last long for doing more than a few runs. Guess I got to stop by OL. .
