Outerlimits Launching Assault On V-bottom Kilo Record
SubscribeOk, I'll admit to just getting done with a loooooooooong work related trip. So, I am a bit grumpy. With that said are some of you guys serious? I can't believe the route many of these post take. It's 10 years later, the boat is longer, it's shorter, it isn't all white, there's new technology. So what. WTF! Now talk of cheating. How can there be cheating in an event with no rules? It's simple there is a 10 year old V bottom kilo speed record. "Run what you brung". Outerlimits has decided it's time to challenge the record. End of story.

I expected this to be a 'ho-hum' thread.

We might as well just send Crossett the T-shirt now so he can enjoy it all season. Originally Posted by Crossett

You don't think that its pretty cool that someone is going to try to break a record? It doesn't matter which manufacturer is doing it, its good for the sport.Originally Posted by Crossett

No, I think it's awesome someone is going after the record. I wish more companies would and I wish it would happen more often than once a decade. My post had nothing to do with that.Originally Posted by Orange quatro

Ya and since they claim that, shouldn't they have done this a while ago to prove it?! LolOriginally Posted by 302Sport
They've claimed that they ran faster than the record for the last ten years, so we will se if they were blowing smoke...Fiore and whipple should put their money where their 180mph mouth is..

Uh, thats 300 hp. But no one dynode the fountain after the run and chances are, like they said in this thread, they probably cheated and added a lot more hp.

Without getting into a pissing match here are real world issues. This has to be apples to apples.
1. Just like "inflation" and the 171 speed record - shouldnt this be more like 180 MPH to win due to advancements in materials and technology? 172 MPH might beat the record, but did it really break the RECORD.
2. The Fountain 42 is really a purpose built 39, so if OL can do it in a 43 that is based on a production boat, where are we?
3. I'm just guessing but the 171MPH 1550 Sterlings might have been more than 1550.
4. Reggie should be able to do a pre-record run inspection
LOL

Fountain fan here- I do think it's great they are going after it, records are meant to be broken, I do think it will be a long time for OL to take over Fountains record for race wins. The only unfortunate thing is that Fountain and Reggie still aren't around to challenge and keep their own record. And before you OL guys start attacking how they went out of Biz- just remember the economy killed just about everyone except for the more custom high end guys, which we know OL and Fountain also had different business models. I know us being fellow fans of the industry, NO ONE wants to see companies go out of business and people lose their jobs.
So again- good luck to the OL boys, I think they will break it, as they should!! If they don't... Omg can you imagine that thread?? Haha
