Our first boat bought in the 80's was a 83 Baja 184SS. It came with a V6 & thru hull exhaust under the water line did 66mph, replaced with 350, osco exhaust with stainless tips above water, 75mph. Maybe a inch or so of boat in the water, but very stable. Very fast in its day.
Next, 24 Switzer, nice ride, lots of work to see the 75mph. Finally, 1998 26 Sonic, custom ordered from the factory, unbelievable ride, still working on getting a consistent 75mph on gps. Should be there this summer, plus some!! ;) Oh yeah, almost forgot the occupation part; Domestic Engineer :) |
My own first boat was a 12' aluminum Crestliner row boat from the mid 50's. My grandpa bought it new at a boat show. He gave it to me several years ago when he moved to AZ. That boat lived thru a few generations of abuse! I had a 7.5 on it, then used an 8 horse, then bought a new Honda 15 for it which was WAY too much motor. Sold that Crestliner last fall and bought a 14' Alumacraft for the motor. My first boat that went over 70 mph was a 1992 Checkmate, now I cant live without a fast boat.

I started out with a 1970 unknown. thats what the regestration said. it was a 16' alluminum 3/4 V hull with a 50 hp merc that must of been form the 50s. the engine blew a rod the second time out. the next was a 17' ebtide bowrider with a 115 hp johonson it was a good lake boat for skiing. the next was a 21' nordic with a 365 hp 454 and a bravo. to fast for skiing but great for having fun. the new boat I currently have is a 28 scarab that I am building a blown 454 to drop in it. each boat was a large step up from each other. I cant wait to see wat I get next. ;) The only problum is that I have to stay under the 100 mph range. I have a agreement with the wife, If i get a boat that dose 100 mph I have to buy her a harley davidson.
