Rumors were swirling about this one doing it but I haven't heard anything lately.

This guy is not afraid to open this one up. He outran me in rough water because it was beating us up.

Donziben 02-22-2014 10:20 PM

He might still, hasnt totally made up his mind. That's a lot of money to de-rig then purchase everything new and have MTI re-rig, he knows he can offset some of the price by selling what he has but thought he would try selling the boat first. The boat rides and runs awesome, I have been it several times. I believe top speed right now with 1075's is 152, I have a pic of it somewhere. The wife and I have been it with him at 125 and it is a rock solid awesome boat. The owner rode in that silver and green 38 at last years Miami boat show poker run and loved it, I believe they are the same hull just different bustle.

152 with 1075s? Slow- should be 160 easy!

Ortho- please don't admit that- you should punish him in the rough- as a 36 Mti is really only like a 32-34 foot boat.

I had passengers and always run safe. The guy who owns the 36 has no fear.

If you put an experienced driver in my boat (or someone with bigger balls and smaller brains) of course it would eat the 36 alive in the rough. Mine runs 140s the way it sets but will run 160 turned up.

That being said, I was looking hard at 38 MTI with 700s but for the same money I could buy SummerOs 2012 40 Skater with 1100s and a tilt trailer. So, I've decided to keep my boat for now. The 40 Mystic intrigues me as does a certain used 388. It's just stupid for me to buy a boat that costs more than the lake house and dock where it sits :). Like buying a new corvette when you live in a trailer park.

You've got a beautiful boat BAM, why swap it out, seems like a warm weather crib would be the next thing on my wish list.

I think this boat was the one that was introduced in Havasu in 2008 with 1200's it's a quick. I remember the top speed being much higher.
Just a guess but I think 1350's in a 36 MTI with a owner that wants to reach top speed could be in the 190's. Basing this on a 43 1350's that I know of that runs in the upper 170's
I'm not saying it will do it in a shootout but I think it could run that fast.

Oh you didn't state that part. Lol... About how you guys already ran and the situation... What used 388 might you be talking about? :)

The baddest 388 ever built.......so far

That is the fastest he has had it, didn't say it wouldn't go faster. And yes a 40 skater with an experienced driver should beat a 36mti. The owner of the mti has owned the since it was pretty much new and knows his boat very well.

Understood- already thought it had more left.

44MTI 02-23-2014 11:37 AM

I drove for Randy at Havazoo when this boat was new. Had Merc 1200's, but brought the wrong props and had to borrow a set that Randy hated. Lot of boats there claiming to run 180+, which was what Randy had planned to be propped for. We ran a solid 170, almost the whole run and ended up 2nd to the card stop behind CRC.

Orthobam 02-23-2014 11:40 AM

1350s in a 36 MTI would be a sight to see for sure. I would like to see it run……from a distance :)

NO REGRET$ 02-23-2014 01:32 PM

i was looking at the dcb m35 176 mph..... real close to the mti 36

,,, but then the dcb m41 runs 175.5 same power ??????

so is length better for ride and top speed is there a a happy middle...... small boats do it quicker then the big boys drive by in the rough ???? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IW_lFlrbPyI

Holy Sh!t. I missed the DCB M31 video the first time through. That was incredible. Quiet is so sexxxxy. 176mph at 6500 RPM.

You wouldn't expect a 36' boat to run faster than that would you?

Looks like speed is not inversely associated with weight. I can see how bottom and tunnel design really matter.

Regardless, amazing machines.

I've been in the Green 31 at 170, pretty impressive. Only reason I actually got in the boat was cause Tony was driving.

chattviper 02-23-2014 07:36 PM

No, never did. My first high performance cat. I like where I'm at speed wise. Maybe one day I'll go bigger.
And rumor has it that brad's (52 giants MTI) son is getting a 38 MTI w 700's.
My .02 1350's is a little much in a 36 but in the right hands would be a rocket ship!!

Randy did build a 40 with 1350's a couple yrs ago. It was at the Miami Boat show. Very simple and beautiful boat, red with a real carbon fiber insert stripe on the side. 4-5 man with carbon fiber top on hydraulic lifts. Sold to a 78 y/o man some where near Mid East coast. Never did a top speed run, he just wanted to get in 160's very fast which it did.

Gorgeous boat! You really can't compare speed of a canopy to non canopy boat! Canopy way better aero and good for around 10 mph faster

Thats the one, it also had some really nice interior work. Do you have any more pics, I always really liked this boat.
And precision its not a canapy boat, it a pleasure boat with a removable top, very similiar to the ones on some of the outerlimits. Nothing structural to it.

Corvette ownership in a trailer park justification:

- You can sleep in your car but you can't drive your house!

It doesn't matter, structural or not, we aren't talking about a roll over. We are talking about air flow and aero dynamics . Bottom line is- with the top on, it's not an open boat
