My original estimate was based on a couple of things:

1. my 7600lb 28' Cigarette went 67mph w/350Mags/Bravos(on radar).
2. this boat is probably weighing it at around 4500-5000lbs
3. his motors are probably putting out at least 350hp given the mods.

so...my 69mph was pretty close

I have to disagree with your weight estimates. A 33 Scarab (which is a stepped version of the 31) weighs 8400#'s (wow) so I can't imagine a 31 weighs 4500-5000#'s???????? c'mon guys I have a 28 Saber that weighs 6200 dry. And scarab's have always been known to be on the heavy side. I bet it is a lot heavier than 5000#'s

I also know that a 89 31 scarab with 454 mags (365's) runs 67-70 mph tops! I have a friend who used to own one. (fresh water) I have never seen a 31 with small blocks that is a very different setup. I was looking for a 31 about 5 years ago

Lakefront , Buzzinbye
Bring your GPS's ! I don't even look at speedometers !
I think a 31 Scarab with BB's wiegh's #8500 and these SB's are making WAY more than 350hp. 6000rpm's with 21 Mirage plus's do the math.

A 31 with 502 mpi's runs 70.7 .

Trust me I was surprised too.
We all had a speed pool , a bunch of us put in $20 and guessed a speed. I definiltley lost I picked 67.8

I will edit your name out !

I just thought it would be fun to see what people thought, I know I can't believe those little motors can push that tank that fast

I will say that is amazing!! I would have never thought. But what I did know was that a 31 scarab weighs WAY more than 4500-5000#'s

Okay, I may be a little light on the weight estimates, but Dan, you are comparing a 1989 BB Scarab to 1996 SB model...I would bet my last dollar that the layup schedules and newer technologies have lightened that boat up considerably...also...did the 89 model have TRS or Bravo drives? I also believe that the Saber is build much heavier than the Scarab...

I also said he had to be making at least 350hp...and unless we see dyno numbers, we won't know for sure, but the motor sounds pretty trick to me...

BTW, we did the same thing when we completed my Cigarette...I lost...I said it would do 72mph....

Excellent topic by the way...
