That fatal boat accident in Marco Island Florida referred back the previous page was a total freak accident ' I do not think life jackets would have saved the ones that perished.
I was there that day an hour before it happened All I can say is that boat must have has some type of delamination problem in the hull sides and it had a total failure that day./ The Owner /driver could have never seen that coming from a zillion miles away considering the size and history and quality of the boat and that days conditions which were flat calm. Just an unusual set of circumstances led to the fatalities that day. |
Another irresponsible boater not wearing their life jackets....
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JExRlnCdMKs |
Back in the good old days they used to race 500 miles across the gulf stream to the Bahamas and return non stop. No helicopters no support boats and back in the day no bolsters.. Maybe helmets if some chose to wear them.
I grew up in 55 mph offshore boats hanging on for dear life not behind the wheel.Had a few close ones but I lived . Did a few bust thrru the breakers on Lake Michigan back in the day while my older wiser brother was driving that made that Donzi vid in Ca look like nothing.. We usaully had 40 mph of speed and if we jumped 30 feet that was as far as i could count . thank god we were in a heavily built offshore boat ( still fractured down the whole side at the waterline} No BS been there done that . Hold on local weather newsman in my town of Naples unfortunately was bicycling and hit a stop sign and fell and hit his head on a curb. Now everyone and their brother here is advocating for helmets when on a bike.. Chit is going to happen. Ask baronmarine on this forum how fast an innocent move can change your life. |
Kids on my boat wear jackets, at the same time the only one young really was the kid in back, the rest mid teens or older, calm waters, big boat, fast for how long in a straight line? not ttoo long, I dont see real issue here... and the comment about "he put lanyard on thinking he can get thrown out, not worried about others" was dumb, he wore it probably out of habit, I doubt he actually though something can happen, sure things can happen but lets face it the conditions were not even close to that, yes a helmet COULD break... that is such a rare case in these conditions, you guys fin d any reason to bash someone here, its insane...
I am with the guy that said lets video all boats and pick it apart, I bet not one person here is PERFECT.... not one.... At the same time when we do poler runs and run the boats hard the women stay off the super fast boats and no kids allowed... Pick your battles!!!! |
I don't think it's unreasonable that over 60 or so people should be seated or securely standing in a bolster, I'm not sure why there's some on here declaring their "rights" are in violation. It's the WATER, not some dumbass highway, I think most on here have been around long enough to know that it just takes a wake, certain wave to get a bit harder of a hit.
The dude's not trimming the bow down and doing stupid turns or anything like that so it's not the end of the world, but life preservers for the young ones and secure seating/standing for all is not an unreasonable action if you're going to romp on it a bit. |
I don't like the fact that the kid in front could easily bash his teeth out. But, he's not my kid. If I let everything I saw in life bother me I would be pissed off and exhausted every day.
|
I forgot about the kid between dash yea that's not smart for sure.... But again... Everyone picks everyone apart and like the other guy said if we said something about all stupid stuff we see we would always be *****ing !!!

Opinions ar like A holes everyone has one, most stink, and we usually like our own more than others.
Maybe im a ***** but that marco island story made me shudder. |
A quick Google search revealed that Maryland law says that any child 13 or under MUST wear a pfd, so the kid in the back, who appears under the age of 13, not wearing one is a problem for me. I think the captain was being responsible overall by trying to check on his passengers. Looking at the riding position of the older kid in front, who appears to have ridden there before, it appears that the cabin hatch is left open. That could be troublesome because one freak hit off a wave or an unexpected wake and he would unintentionally dive belowdecks. Agree with most of you, though. I've seen much worse.
|
Get in -Sit down -Shut UP -Hold ON!! They all looked like they new the rules
|
At least the kids are having some family fun with pops, not sitting behind a computer or playing video games all day. It's almost imposible to find a place to ride dirtbikes nowadays. 3-wheelers were banned in the 80's, hell you can't even play a game of jarts at the family BBQ. Where does it end?
Speaking of jarts does anyone have a set they want to sell? |
I don't have a problem with the video. I've tossed my kids around a lot more than that:) Rule is life jackets on if the boat is not anchored or docked.....PERIOD! My kids are 7 and 12 though.
I can't tell the difference between a 12 yr old and a 20 yr old kid anymore. For all I know the "kid" standing is 18+. |
I feel bad for this guy! Getting called out publically, for taking kids on a boat ride. Boating is inherently dangerous! Both my kids have had an occasional bruise or scratch from boating. They are the first ones to yell faster. You can look at most every boating video and find something that could have been done better. (Including mine) Delete this thread immediately!!!
I would love to buy this guy a beer if I ever get the chance to meet him. |
This is why I don't have a facebook, youtube channel, or any of that bull$hit. Some yahoo with an opinion is always out there to make his coments heard or with a bridge to burn.
Delete this thread IMO. |

I also never said anything stating the driver was driving erratic, dangerous, to fast for the conditions, near other boats, etc.

IMHO:
1) Running that hard, everyone needed PFDs on. 2) The kid that was up pinballing around the dash area is not safe. Being forward of the driver is my biggest concern in this example. If he came loose, and landed on the driver; it could have been really bad for everyone. I'm pretty sure this has been posted before and commented on. |

Envy!!! LMMFAO Yea I want to give up my Ilmor V-10 powered cat for an open cockpit center console with some weak 225's on it. Your right I'm filled with envy for your hotrod.
My opinion is your a TROLL. You dont have a performance boat. You have over 1800 post on a performance site. |

. You are indirectly making my point for me. Your 100% right, boating is dangerous and kids will take their lumps and keep asking for more. That's exactly why the adults (especially the operator) should be doing his part in making sure the two younger kids are wearing PFDs and not standing up holding on to one rail while in between the dash pods. Especially if the guy is traveling near the speeds he advertises in his video title. And again, each person is entitled to their own opinion, so demanding a thread be deleted because you don't agree with it is garbage. Again, as I have said before, if you don't like the thread, move on. I never said I didn't want comments. If I didn't want them I wouldn't have started a thread. That's why I think deleting a thread because everyone isn't in 100% agreeance is ignorant.

Like I said, each person is entitled to have their own opinion. I didn't say you have boat envy. You obviously don't read well.... I said it sounds like you are envious of the fact that I get to sit and surf the net all day and get paid to do it. But you are making my point for me. Because I don't have a big bad Cat apparently I am not good enough to post on this forum. The Concept 30 that can run mid 60s is more than enough to qualify as a performance boat. But for the record, most of my posts were during my period of ownership of my recently sold Velocity (which I delivered two days ago to its new owner). But that was only a 26 footer that did mid 70s so I guess since it isn't a high horse powered cat, it isn't a "performance" boat either. Sorry to say, people like you are what is wrong with this sport. Too many bloated egos. Again, you will NEVER see me taking a shot at what someone else owns, drives, etc. I am better than that. And I know most of the folks on here are too. Thank you again for stopping by.
I'm not saying I'm better than you or your boat sucks. But its a fishing boat! Go over to those websites and post a video of some guys fishing and pick it apart. Don't come on here and call out a guy running with his family who is lucky enough to run a cig. My boy has been in cats with me for 10 years. He's still alive. If anyone has a bloated ego its YOU! Your entilted enough to judge this man and his family from a youtube vid. Get off your high horse. |

But you pretty much did by calling my boat "weak". And again, if the folks here on OSO didn't think a Concept was a performance boat, There wouldn't be a section dedicated to Concept boat... And since it appears you don't read the complete posts, I will repeat. I just sold off my Velocity and delivered it two days ago. But I am betting since my Velocity didn't cost $250k its not a performance boat either? Yes people with attitude like yours are what is wrong with this sport. Also why many of the smaller boats no longer attend poker runs, because the "My boat is bigger, faster, more expensive than yours" attitudes have chased them off. Shame on me for allowing you to suck me in..........
Your just a moron that has no idea about anything. And your concept is not a performance boat. Its a sport console. |
I am the polar opposite of arrogant! I live my life doing my best to be nice to people, promoting the sport, organizing poker runs and boating events, president of a boat club. By the way I preach boater safety. The reason I say delete it is not because I am arrogant its because, innocent man is being victimized by you. If his face was blurred out have at it. Give your head a shake, you are coming off bad.
