That's an awesome accomplishment also. Word has it that that record will fall fairly soon too.

What about the "SV single" record does everyone NOT understand!!
YES, the 180 record by the UNLIMITED V was awesome, this is not about that record, it is about the SV record!
Carry on.

A 240 mph stuff. The driver died but this is a great vintage video and not too long.
Donald Campbell also died seeking the world's fastest boat record in a crash about 300 mph and Craig Arfons died in a 380 mph crash. The videos are on YouTube. It takes a lot of balls to go after these records.

Because of the confusion that was generated when everyone thought that SMB was run under the Super Vee Light category, (which is understandable being that those are the boats it routinely races against) the ABPA requested that the class name be changed to not include either the words "Super" or"Lite" so to hopefully alleviate the confusion.....The SMB team agreed and thus the class SV Single was designated

You might want to go back and re-read post #105 where Bullhead (Mark Tuck), who was organizing the deal, said they knew the 29OL wouldn't meet the APBA Offshore regs for the SVL class kilo record so they registered under APBA Special Events Super Vee Canopy.
The problems started after the run when they apparently misled Matt Trulio into writing they had set a new SVL Kilo Record and didn't expect to see the push back according to Bullhead:
Problem is the 29OL doesn't routinely race against the Super Vee Light category since SBI, where the OL races, dropped "Light" and only OPA uses it. SBI uses SV, or Superboat Vee, so the opportunity to further mislead still exists.

After the fact, when sh!t hit the fan...... And ABPA had to ask
Seems to me and most everybody else SMB got busted yet again and is trying to spin damage control.. With his track record Doc should enter politics and run for office.....

Remember LOTO 2-3yrs ago with Watch Your Back?
Lance & Shelly put an 800+hp(?) motor in Team Octane and ran 108? making them the unofficial fastest "SVL." Watch Your Back team cried foul because of the motor and managed to get the trophy. Couldn't have another SVL take that away so it was made sure that the boat fit SVL tech. Not finding a 525 got them disqualified or moved into another group. That trophy case must be huge!

Not sure your interpretation is correct? It says "confusion that was generated because everyone THOUGHT that".........

Confusion was generated after the fact, hence the ASPCA ASKED THAT THE CLASS NAME BE CHANGED. There was no confusion before hand, because no onje was invited to their party, Well it was the 43's party, SMB seems to have shown up and trashed the place. Not a lot of people to show up to challenge the unlimited run, but there are a few svl's that may have shown. Anyways since this was a semi covert operation, there was no one to get confused before the event. People only got confused afterwards, when Doc tried to use the press to imply he set the new svl record. By having the it implied, he probably figured he could get away with it by plausible deniel.. "oops, we werent after the SVL record, we were making a one off record that doesn't impact anyone or any class, we just wanted to go for a fast officially observered boat ride"
