I towed a 38 Scarab from Toronto to Miami in the winter with a two wheel drive Chevy 1500 SS 454 short box with 4.10 gears when I was young and dumb

See, I like the equipment comparison on a 25'. So far, consensus is a 42 is max and well within towing capacity.

anything hitched up correctly (meaning WD hitch when required) that falls within factory indicated limitations/ratings. I would prefer 8' box once the boat is 38+

i towed a 40'x12' park model trailer with my swr 3/4 ton 4x4 gme suburban.. man what was i thinking,,a friend asked if i thought my truck could move it and like a dumbass i said yes...only towed it about 6 miles but when i was done i broke a leaf spring on the driverds side,,my rear suspension was on the rubber stops..pulled it fine but suspension wise was not so good..i think it weighed 20 k and i looked it up after the fact..never again..

So many variables like tongue weight, type of brakes, axles, tires, wheelbase.. you can`t just put a number on it.

Fu@& SRW , the two extra wheels add so much stability I was blown away. I would have never believed it till I did a side by side comparison .Now I have a bigger hard on for DRW than Longwayz!

The Excursion is great but with the short wheel base mine was all over the road trying to pull my heavy 38. Sway city

I traded in a F350 dually diesel for the ram. I think the ram tows better than the Ford did, and I can fit through a freaking drive through! I pull the same trailer and machine.

I also pulled Jasons(rollwithit) boat, a 36 Baja, to Ft Lauderdale and Tampa the last few months and it pulled like a mule with no sway in the ass end. I really cant complain about a SRW truck pulling worse than a DRW.

With a newer good condition SRW Diesel equipped with air bags, upgraded wheels and tires that are rated to carry the load and a newer good condition properly equipped trailer that has EOH disc brakes on all 3 axles along with the proper hitch setup I would not hesitate to tow 20,000lbs Tag and 35,000lbs Gooseneck.

I personally have over 1.5 million safe miles between 5 SRW trucks, fully insured and DOT legal with a perfectly clean record.

2013 Cummins Ram manual transmission, Air bags, forged aluminum wheels, and upgraded tires rated to carry the load. Trailer has 6 EOH disc brakes.

Can't even feel the Cig behind us

I can feel mine moving a bit when I get to running 60mph or so.
