This just came today; read the article on Optimization of clearance design for high performance engine bearings. Maybe should start a new thread on engine bearings and clearances.

You cant hold a gallon + of oil in the top of the motor, I dont think you sucked it dry unless your oil level was very low. Does it say which journal this was on?? if you were starving for oil it'd be the last one, but the others would show signs of heat as well..

Good to know about the pans. Stock 6 qt pans gave me issues when running hard in rougher water, stock 8qt pans hit my offshore mounts so I bought 10qt Hardin pans. Found out this year canton makes a nicer pan for less $$$

Tim,

I keep reading "I am only making 600 hp" which sure, isn't a ton in the offshore world by any means, but..... You are driving this thing all day in the meat of the torque (4500 rpm) pushing a heavy, wet running ride with deep legs on long cruises. Guys with bigger hp rarely hold it there all day. I know you are on a budget, but if you are going to continue to run your boat that hard all times you may want to seriously consider better bottom end components, or start cruising in the 3s like the rest of the boating world just saying

Totally get it, I am gonna make tem the best I can afford and maybe not hold it on the dash as long as normal, maybe cruising will be more item then not in the future! I guess I buy my toys to beat tem and use them, same as the Cobra, rarely and I not doing fill throttle runs down the highway. That's why I don't get too upset when they break I kjow I am hard on my stuff, price to pay.

Pull the sticks back a bit and you'll save enough fuel $$$ to buy better parts

Great attitude for sure.

drives me crazy seeing people putt putting around in their go-fasts that have serious power.

Back in the day if we weren't in a slow no wake zone it was beat it as hard as you can.

Before getting back into boats again when i was a teenager I had a 440 69 Roadrunner .. My buddies who had Hot Camaros and . Mustangs etc used to bust my balls about my car being apart half the time. My reply was if you used half the power that you built into your motors half the time that i do your chit would break every once in a while too.God I beat on that car nothing like a fearless 17 year old with a built 440 4 speed.
