^Can I come live with you? It's too cold up here. You don;t even require sides on your buildings down there!

You want to be able to stand up in the cockpit of the boat while inside, at a minimum.
14' is more than likely enough to pull a motor on one of our style of boats.

Remember, most overhead doors are configured so that they are 2' shorter than the ceiling. There are options out there that do not have this differential, but that's how most COTS products are designed.

It's ok just a winter storage that is 200 miles from home and still fits nicely.

Heres one of my engines coming out with a 12' ceiling. It has just cleared the boat there. Dont crank about my funky duct job, I only had the shop up for a month or so at that point its all fixed now. Thats Sutphil doing the honors.

I have a couple with open areas hips off to one side. I have a 30x30 with a open hip or lean 2 that's 8' wide, it makes for a nice place to put chairs or the lifted golf cart while where at the cottage. My other cottage has a 40x40 with a open extra 8' which works great for storing wood and tractor attachments all under roof.

16' ceilings would be nice if your looking to have a loft in the garage. Or having a semi truck and pulling engines out of a boat. How sweet would that be. I too would have to agree at least a 12' ceiling minimum. The minimum garage door being 10' tall and 12' wide.

12' was the max I could do with the bylaws.....that is one thing that hasnt been brought up here, check your bylaws. I wasnt allowed to put a washroom in either as that would make it a residence and you cant have two residences on one property.

If you have the space I would go 40x60 if possible. A friend went 30x50 and I did 40x60 and the difference is huge. Not a lot more money either.
