Lots of "ifs" there......

Impressive but a properly equipped race boat should have plenty of air. Even if you are panicking.

You spend all your money on fuel cells but can't house air? Agreed.

I think you are missing some details of this specific event.

No $hit. I wasn't there but why did he run out of air? In my own opinion safety starts and stops with the owner!
I'm am not saying other $hit didn't go wrong. Just curious about the air situation.

I believe Joeys' system still had air in it when he attempted to remove his restraint.

You said I'm missing some details. If there was air why didn't he use it?

A little info from Ron P (Post128) may help you....

When a buckle is undone, the air automatically switches from the SCUBA tank to the individual spare air bottles to allow escape. These little bottles only have about 8 or 10 breathes in them. The buckle is complex. It has the two air feeds, the intercom system and the five point harness. I've never used one but I've seen plenty.

I wasn't there, but I've been in and around that boat several times over the years and knowing Steve, he would invest in the best equipment possible for himself and Joey.

RIP Joey.

PS - OPA red flags a race is a boat is over or racer in the water. We'll restart the race is all safety personnel can get back on station.

I am still confused. I thought he could not get his buckle released. If he could not release his buckle how did he run out of air? If he did get his buckle released why did he not get out.
