my friend just rebuilt his and came within a couple hours of blowing them up. Gears were shot and needed full internals new - 200 hrs w/ 1100s. Serviced religiously .

you should do an arneson commercial lol, thats bs, i bet u could damn near buy 1 arneson with what it cost to rebuild a pair of 8s at 200 hours....
transmitting all that hp and tq through 2, 90 degree directional changes is nuts... the arnesons seem like they are bullet proof in comparison, it is such a simple drive system in comparison to 6s and 8s, and i never hear people blowing them up or breaking shafts

about 2 years ago I saw 2 laying in the corner shop floor at pier 57 tn, side was busted out of it, Ill try find some picks

My friend told me that the Mercury/Tomlinson said the gears need to be reversed every 50 hours so they wear evenly and that will more than double the life. Apparently the first owner never did that and when they went to do it, found a disaster.
