Wood should not touch water period. Wood should be totally encapsulated, not soak wood in a brine like beef jerry to preserve it...if it has water in it, the wood is compromised.

Poor rigging

I can tell you this much-
My 10 and 25 year old custom built saltwater boats are leaps and bounds above my prior 8 year old mass produced freshwater boat in the care/maintenance/condition categories. I'll take a saltwater Cigarette over a freshwater Bayliner any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

I agree salt $ucks.

Just for that reason I have decided to give up boating, nothing but salt here and I don't want my boat to drop in value anymore.

Now if we could get all those freaking CC's to also figure it out.

I guess seals never go bad, caulks never dry out, and bolts with torque pre load remain the same over the course of decades. Gotchya...

JRider, if you want to see what 20 years of saltwater use with frequent flushes look like, I have an outboard that is ready for an impeller service.... and I'm only about 45 minutes south of you. I promise you can be the one to put a wrench to it and drop the LU so you don't think there's any funny business afoot!
