Typically, when you are towing something the vehicle insurance would cover anything on the hitch, boat/trailer included.

However, you can see how it would be easy to reach the limits of a traditional policy.

Hence why Personal Liability Umbrella Policies are prudent for folks like us.

Not thru my insurance - so always check.

My insurance, does not include what's being trailered. You need to insure the trailer but it does not include the contents it's holding....so just trailer.

Crazy...glad I asked a bunch of years ago because before then I did what most do....assume.

Many moons ago I was in a friends truck and he was towing a small 3 rail bike trailer(his) that had his and my XR650L's on it. Both bikes tagged and insured. We come around a turn on a windy back country road and a farm tractor towing a full trailer of hey or straw i dont know, either way it was taking up more than one lane on a small two lane road. My buddy swerves the right tires of the truck and trailer go off the shoulder where there happens to be a big wash out. the trailer coupler split open and the trailer came loose from the ball and flipped into the ditch. Both bikes had decent damage. In the end we both made claims on our individual bike insurances for the repairs as neither his truck nor his home owners would cover it.

Yes. Everytime - whether local or on longer trips.

That trailer looks like the bunks were NOT made for that boat. Probably why it fell off.
