I do understand its all marketing and its a brand with great recognition, etc. They still build nice boats. Not bashing. But I do find it silly a company can call itself Cigarette Racing and not race at all!
|
I believe Phil Lipship won in 2001 with the twin step top gun.
|
Who have been the big winners since then?
|
^^^^^Well, world has gotten worse. With easy to get, decent looking vinyl graphics now-a-days, every other import and old POS truck around here has some sort of made up personal or small group racing decal across the top of their front windshield and/or rear window.
In response to every 30ft and up boat being a 'Cigarette', take it in stride. I had a outdrive in my office here for almost a year. Atleast 9 out of 10 people asked either 'what kind of motor is that' or 'when are you going to install that motor." Worst part is, more than half of those people had to give me input on what was wrong with their car and how we should fix it. We are a lake front resort community. That is fact ! |
Here we go...winter starting early.
I presume the company was named when don basically crushed the vast majority of races and records (since and before) the company was founded in 69. Trade marked. Name is what it is. There's boating companies with far less racing lineage than cig that use world champion or racing in their names. Whatever. |
Cry babies :Whatever::champs:

I am thinking all Fountain owners should have their emblems changed to: Worlds Fastest V or World Champion, or at least Cat Killer.... LOL

Since then there's been cig race boats (the don on here is one example), unleashed gladiator raced for a while and there was the bell and Ross / smash poker custom built 45 cig race boat for P1 overseas recently. It's not that people haven't raced cigs through the past 10 years or so, it's the lack of cigarette factory backing - they (skip) doesn't do it. It's a pit to throw money into and he does just as good if not better marketing his product in other ways. The old days of watch a race on the weekend, buy that boat the next week that is greatly the point of road, off-road, street bike etc racing is a thing of the past for the boating community. Poker runs took over. Now you want to talk about marketing, skip and cig are all over poker runs. That's where the money is. I guess they could change the name to world class poker run boats. But considering cigarette racing team is trade marked and a world renowned and recognized insignia and name - Changing it would be rather daft. |

SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING : Owning a Fountain can be hazardous, you will never stop smoking Cigarette's

not trying to be a smart ass but were the fountains considered production boats? I know cigarettes claim to fame is no two cigarettes are a like...which I think is pretty cool.

Well I do have to admit, Cigarette is the eponymous of all offshore boats so that is saying something.

I try to tell em that it`s a family pleasure boat but with the cleavers noone seems to believe me. I~m going to start making stuff up, especially to " who makes that Cigarette boat?" Or " are you the number one race team?" Yes, yes I am :lolhit: |

Wow you Cig boys sure some something :bong::bong: I have seen the same paint on several cigs, and you wanna tell me that Lip-Ship never floor planned any cigs LOL :Whatever:
|
Bananarama`s Cig hating is at a 9.5 right now.
You ok buddy? Nobody said anything bad about that sweet 38' Fointain you got.. :D |
Lipship makes the boats much more custom than the factory does, which is the complete opposite of production. I never said a custom boat was better than a production boat, it's just built to the customers taste. You fountain boys are just very assuming.

Yep, many Fountains have the same paint. RR P.S. Sounds like a nice bird, save your fuel $$$ |
They all sink the same way.

From factory no two cigarettes are the same. The red and white boats you reference did not come from factory like that. Well one might have but the other did not. Notice one is a 1994. That pint scheme wasn't even around back then. |
In the interest of historical accuracy, I believe Al had 4 td's in one game. Here is a link for proof. I would hate to short my Chicago neighbors.

He's butthurt it's ok.... haha

Mines 30 years old... lol, but I can say it's never been redone, or even had a transom due to a good build quality... rock solid..

I don't know why. No one was bashing fountain. For me personally fountain is synonymous with formula in terms of production where as cigarette is synonymous with say Outerlimits. Again not comparing speed, history, etc...just manufacturing and production settings. And not trying to bash the brand. Is that a fair assessment? What the hell do I know I own a 20 year old boat!!!

Every boat is a "custom boat" built to the customers taste. I'm not sure how fountain ran their business but I know they built and floor planned a lot of unsold boats.
Fountain had dozens of dealers, Cig had maybe 1/2 dozen at any given time (US dealers) so naturally there were a lot more Fountains out there, many identical. |
What's the gladiator vs toll booth story?
