I got caught on the Chesapeake Bay once when a storm rolled in. They come in very fast there! I was able to barely outrun it back to the ramp but we were completely leaving the water and airing the prop out. And when I looked back at my buddies boat, all I would see is the full bottom. That was exciting.

Down here in Florida so long as your boating is done during the summer by 4 pm you should miss any bad weather, and I a talking about mid July until mid Oct.....the wet season. Otherwise it is often very calm with a gentle 2-4 ft of movement even 25 miles out. As ever it depends upon wind more than tide.

[QUOTE=MonkeySea2;4420192]I actually got a ticket years ago
We do 98% of our boating on an inland lake -- in fact - back in the day - when we had 9 planets I swam across it a few times. I was stopped (with a brand new boat) and was asked to see the fire extinguisher, life preservers, and clean air spark arrestor - which we had 100%. I was then asked how long the boat was -- 18'. I was told that I needed to have a flare warning device -- which I didn't have -- heck I could yell to shore if anything like that happened. It seemed to me it was like a $40.00 fine. It doesn't have to make sense it's a regulation.
3pointstar.
