Question Ot: V10 Excursion

Looking at a 2000 XLT 2WD, V10, loaded - Leather, Rear Air, CD...
28,000 miles. Asking $24,500.

Any known problems, and really how bad is the gas mileage?

Seems to be a good deal, but with War looming and oil prices rising daily might need to wait for a PSD in my price range.

Thanks for the input.

Awesome Truck, milage sucks! I've got a V-10 in my F-250.
That's not a bad deal for the miles.

I would shoot for 22k , We get approx 11mpg running around town and 14 on the highway...running 75-80 mph haven't had any problems with our 2000 model @ 42,000 miles

Bought mine in February, currently 16,000 miles. Only used on road trips and towing. Tows like a dream, hauls lots of people very comfortably. Gas mileage sucks at first blush. But the difference between it and the very best you could hope for might only be a $1,000 a year (at 20,000 miles per year). Not material considering the other cost and utility. We had a Suburban before and this is defiantly a superior all-around vechicle.

The only negative I have run across has been the ride if not loaded down. In other words, if you need to use this as a commuter vehicle also good luck!

Doesn't the turning radius leave a lot to be desired? A good friend of mine has an F-250 PSD and the radius is absolutly HORRIBLE. I would assume the frond end is the same on these

the 2000 X turning radius is awsome....i think most manuf. have resolved this problem these days....my 2000 3/4 ton chev is the worst...We use ours all the time....the ride is good compared to the duallies we came to this from , so our opinion is a little dif

I have a 2000 XLT V-10 also, only 4WD. Love the truck, gas mileage sucks, but it was to be expected. Had a Yukon before this, the Excursion is better in every way.
I would try and talk a little on that price though. I bought mine used as well, just about a year ago. Had about 28-29K on it when I bought it, and I paid about $23K, with 4WD. I'd have to assume that a 2WD is worth somewhat less.
By the way, I have 37K on mine now, no problems at all.

My friend just got rid of his leased 2000 X V10. He changed his oil himself, and didn't keep the reciepts, so Ford didn't cover his new motor. He paid to have one installed from somewhere, and they said they have done alot of V-10's that have blown up. His was a broken oil pump at 24,000 miles, it siezed on him on the freeway. According to the shop, that's not uncommon. I would steer away from the gas engine anyway though, if we go back to 2.00+ per gallon, when we go string up saddaam by his turbin, you wont be upset about the extra few bucks you spend on the payment.

The excursion is the ultimate truck to me though, I'm just waiting for just the right deal to fall into my hands on a diesel excursion.
I may end up with an F-250 extended cab PSD shortbed though, My friend is in a must sell situation real soon here on his 2003 w/7000mi for 23k loaded, heated leather, memory seats, hard to pass up, he just bought the damn thing!! anybody want a 96 tahoe with 100K on it?

I use mine as a third vehicle and love it for what can do. My feelings are it would make for a lousy every day car. Hard to park, rides rough and milage is 10.5 mpg around town. However, it can tow my 35' boat with ease, haul a lot of stuff and still carry 8 people in style!

Thanks for all the feedback. The truck would be a daily driver for the wife, all interstate. She now drives a 4WD Diesel Suburban(she loves her truck, once again a woman has proven size matters). The Sub gets 17mpg and very trouble free.
