If your boat is that big and heavy I wouldn't put any thought at all into worrying about the last mph. Just have fun with it. Or go with the helium.

He didn't spec anything out for my engine builder. I am the one who went to Bob based in part on things I read here on OSO. My engine builder I am quite sure could have got me 675 going an entirely different route. My point was that my engine builder went over everything and didn't see anything that looked wrong or like a potential trouble spot. I am not going to argue with you, as I have read enough of your posts to know that is a waste of my time. You definitely sound like you know what you are talking about and you are entitled to your opinion. Not sure what 525sc's have to do with my boat, and we all know that 525sc's make close to 600 with an innercooler and a pulley swap. I guess my boat isn't cool enough to post on here with all of you high roller nose in the air my sheet doesn't stink types. I won't post anymore, I'll just lurk and read and learn from all you experts.

Youve got a great boat, I'd love a 42. And your engine builds look really nice.

It may seem like I say what i say, because I just wanna rip on bob for my own reasons, but that is not true at all. I have guys messaging me, calling me, emailing me stories of their mishaps with bob over the years. Most dont wish to get into any online "drama". I personally can care less if bob, or any of his friends get pizzed at me for my comments.

My #1 goal is to see people have successful boating experiences. I dont offer my opinion to sell a product , or anything like that. Im no expert , just a guy who has a voice. After all, its an internet forum. People give reviews of businesses all the time. If someone had a chitty experience with cpperformance, some random engine builder, or even some guy they bought used parts from, they often talk about it. But god forbid someone says something about Bob here , and they are laughed at, and labeled troublemakers. That part sucks imo, and is the reason any bad reviews or stories regarding him, get left untold.

The 525sc didnt make much more than 525hp. 525efi did a little better.

Did you dyno your engines with the gil manifolds? I'd like to think a 675hp na 540, would suffer a bit with gils. If it made 675 with the gils on and in full marine dress, thats a stout build for sure. Id like to try putting together a marine exhaust shootout on a similar build soon.

This guys perfectly happy with his motors and just wants some setup/ fine tuning info and the longest post on here is telling him his cams are junk? I've had issues with a couple builders. So if I send you their names can I expect you to bring it up whenever the opportunity arises or does it have to be someone you don't like ? I'll send you some pics and receipts of the work and you can talk to our mutual friend from the area who's seen it first hand. Then you'll bring it up all the time? I'd appreciate it. I'd do it myself but don't feel like getting shouted down.

Great question I wouldn't mind a few more MPH, thought about Sanding the bottom......sorta like the helium filled ping pong ball idea also, toys for the skanks to use later ;-)

Wonder why we don't hear more about these speed coatings? Doesn't WCM use a product like that also?

Another way to increase speed is to dial in the perfect center of gravity, sometimes even adding weight to the boat.

Wonder if 1000 islander would have used Bob if all the negative reviews were posted along with the positive.....and if the positive were "verified" to see if the user was one of the many tire kickers who call and chat with Bob about their dream build then refer him to all of OSO when they actually haven't even done Business yet! What about the 3 well respected engine builders that quit using Marine Kinetics recently.........good and bad reviews all contribute to this community, hopefully helping us all make informed decisions.

Keep us posted with any speed gains!

Most of the reviews on here, good or bad are from nothing more than tire kickers. Hell, you'd think YPM built every engine on here if you didn't know better. How come it's only good ones about the cams that need to be verified ? I've got receipts from lots of popular topics of discussion on here- MK, Pro Systems, Crane and Daytona boxes, Eddie Young, glassdave, Colabella. The list goes on. I can compare notes all day on the products and services discussed here from first hand info not just what someone told me.

What about shorty lowers 1000islanderer ? Have you played with that avenue yet? Or checked the bottom for straightness ?

Do individual bottoms get out of wack from the way they are cared for or from the slight differences when built? You'd think that if one bottoms was good or bad out of the mold the rest would be the same, no?

They can certainly develop a hook over time if not supported well. Alot of older boats have seen significant gains in speed, heck even some newer boats, just by straightening and shaprening the botttom . The bottom on mine was blueprinted in the late 90s. It still pretty darn straight today. Icdedppls 38 cigs bottom, had a substantial hook in the bottom. Whether or not that was from the mold, or simply occured over time, idk. Being a 30 year old hull, that came setup with 454s and trs, i doubt bottom blueprinting was a concern in 1986. Heck, prob woukdnt have mattered on a 58mph boat anyway . Now that its tickling 90, it was something worth addessing. Not to mention all the nicks, scrapes, and little gouges that were on the bottom that needed repairs.

The fiberglass shop over here does alot of work on hi perf hull bottoms.

I have -2 shorties on mine. Bottom could probably use some work but that is something I would only do if I was 2-3 mph away from a magical number like 100.
