Yes with the Merc twin shafts for the current 6 and up. Cost is not cheap either. I understand the SC lower is not that strong either. If I recall I think the Merc 6 is rated up to 1100 hp and a full SCX what is 900 or 1000 hp ? I know its 900 hp max or 1000 hp max if I recall correctly for a full SCX.

I think the rating is only as good as, well, who's giving the rating. lol.

I'm not to up to speed on the scx/sc lower combo as far as long term reliability with a torque engine package in a big single. It might hold up, my gut says probably not though.

900ft lb stump puller build, in a big single engine hull, prob gonna be tough on the gears. imco states MAXIMUM idle speed to be 800RPM for the scx. The drive holds 4.5 quarts of lube. A wet sump #6, held 20 quarts. A SSM V, held about 8 quarts, and an old 3A, about 10 quarts.

I would like to see a pair of bravo lowers mounted to a #6 upper. Would not be that hard to do. Ask Tyson be a walk in the park for him. Big silver cat.

But those ratings im sure are for a 4 1/4 stroke blower motor or similar a 5" stroker is gonna make tq off idle like a 1500hp engine or a diesel lol.

Like the guy stated earlier a little too much fuel getting on plane and boom.

Why arent u looking at the ssm8?

What about the x power drive? I know someone on here just bought a cat with those but haven't heard much. This boat is to be a trailblazer of sorts, so why not if starting from scratch.

Always easier helping others spend their money.
great build and thanks for sharing.

The uppers gears and shafts are plenty big to handle the power. Its a design thats been around for several decades now, and race proven. It was used in the SSM 3,4,5,6, and now 8. Mercury never had a cone clutched drive that successfully handled power that you will be making.

Personally, I think you'll be chunking those standard SC lower gears, especially if you run hard in anything other than flat water. Either way, awesome build, looking forward to the results.
I had an SC on my boat , about 850HP , I went through 2 rebuilds before I went to an SCX . I researched the SCX/SC lower combo and I found that the SC lower was now the weak link . I'm now going on 3 seasons , spinning a Maximus 5 blade with no issues ...lost a little top end though .
