That would give a whole new meaning to "tower of power."
They make a 4cyl verado. Which means they have heads already for a 3.5L V8, 760lbs, 467hp or a 533R with same specific output as the 350 and 400r.

They also introduced a 3.0L I4 NA 150hp outboard. Merc doesn't seem scared of tooling new blocks and heads though, so there's no telling what they'll do when they want a bigger outboard.

.

Question:

If the 450 or 500 is released at the Miami Int'l Boat Show Feb_2018, will that mean a few used 400R will hit the used engines market? Win-win for everyone I think?

I think its to soon for the 450 or 500 , they need to sell a **** load of 400's first so that when they come out with the larger HP people with the 400's will want to step up , so now they win both ways , repower and new builds

Just my thoughts

Not gonna happen for 2018. The test boat hasn't even been built yet. I've been told that we're 18-24 months out, but there's guys on this site that are far more knowledgeable than I about this subject.

i think they sold 2 ****loads worth already. I don't think I saw another outboard in key west that wasn't a 400 verado!

If you read this article, you would think that something is on the horizon.
