Word is lemmings. Gen X-ers and Millenials aren't the wrenching types that the Boomers were. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOOs8MaR1YM

wait . . . which ones are the lemmings again? . . . us or them  . . . :D

NautiSouth, It's up to you to enlighten your generation, get to work! :) I am confused. Is being a lemming a bad thing if we are having fun?

I've been working, that's for damn sure. I finished a transom, stringer and sole job late last summer. Every piece of wood in my boat is new now, and glassed in with epoxy resin and 1800 bi-ax. I'm ready to enjoy a little bit of summertime as I chip away at the trim work still to be done.
It might be completely possible I'm wishfully thinking in my predictions. With prices where they are, I don't see myself in the market for a used performance boat. Right now, my best shot would be to rebuild a rotten hull, but that's not inexpensive either. |

Interesting thread.
I've heard the argument that lack of new boats in the market has inflated the prices of used boats. That's fair, I suppose. What if we looked at it from the other side of the equation, the demand side. Right now there are a population of performance boat enthusiasts, but that population is aging. I'm 35, and I have only one friend my age who owns a go-fast boat. My other friends don't have the interest in mechanical things to keep a performance boat going. I foresee a significant drop in demand for these used boats as the enthusiasts age out of the market. I foresee the same thing happening to classic cars. Gen X-ers and Millenials aren't the wrenching types that the Boomers were. |
oh and I have several friends my age that have go fast boats.

Also 35 and wont be turning any wrench's that I can not pay someone else to do |
I'm 35 and on my 6th cat. My buddies same age range (42 Fountain lightning, 36 nortech, 27 fountain, 46 skater, etc) Get off OSO and work your ass off.
I built my boat with my own two hands and do a lot of poker runs far from home. I'll never buy a fishing boat and I'll never let another guy work on my boat since my experience with Derreberry about 10 years ago. Not all young people are weak. |
