I have this one. Nothing protruding to get scraped on and it's stainless. https://www.hardin-marine.com/p-1374...connector.aspx

The kits I am finding all seem to come with a valve (except Mercruiser) to isolate the drive unit. I would like to eliminate/not use the valve, as it seems to over complicate your simple method above...AGREED?
Does anyone know the material (stainless, plastic, etc...) of the Mercruiser "T" (more like a "Y"?

The valve is there so the cooling water goes one way, into the sea pump/engine, not back out the drive.

I like the idea of back flushing the drive before I start the motor. Has any used with out the ball valve?
as in my twin engine set getting to that valve is going to be VERY inconvenient

Are you running sea strainers?

You guys are complicating this too much. Buy the kit that Diamond linked. Install.

Leave the valve on all the time, even when flushing on the lift. The only time to turn the valve off is when you are in saltwater and staying overnight. Under those circumstances turn the valve off before you flush so you don't get seawater in and you can get a nice fresh water flush - the sailboater beside you might not like your Marina flush down but 90% of people at the docks won't care......

Makes sense to me...thanks for simplifying the decision process.

I've order two Diamond standard flushing kits (one for each motor). Man, the raw water pumps are "buried" in the engine bay! Is there some indicator on the pump as to which side/hose is the inlet and which is the outlet? Its hard to see anything down there/upside down.
I want to put the flushing system on the inlet side (drawing water from the drives).
Thanks for all the support for this newbie!

That’s funny that Hardin is claiming their engineers designed this. I’ve always known this to be a Jabsco freshwater wash down fitting...
