Real Open Ocean running again???
There seems to be some motion about re doing again, the long distance runs of old.... and maybe a few new ones too.
Pepe is working on a run to Bermuda from N Carolina and HORBAhas been made aware of interest in the Around Long Island run again.
The ALI would use the same format as the Bimini event that HORBA put on a few years ago.
The ALI is 271 miles long. A timed run can be non stop or with fuel stops.
There would be several classes based on boat length and HP and the run would be against the clock rather than each other style.
Now what real interest is out there??
Hopefully late summer this year possible date.

We have 6 entrants interested at this point.
The idea is to allow people to have a safe experience..... doing a long ocean run.
We are open on boat sizes at this point.
Perhaps 18 feet to 50 feet in length.
Gasoline or diesel / Stern-drives / Outboards / Surface drives
Fastest boat class starts first and each slower class then starts one minute behind, until all classes are running.
Two records exist now.
Record # 1 set during an actual race regardless of the weather by Joe Sgro and Joe Cibellis in a 43 foot Outerlimits.
Record # 2 set in perfect conditions at down running alone, by Stu Hayim in a 50 foot MTI

If late summer is September then the winds start to pick up and kick up chop. Last time this was run they didn't even make it out of Long Island Sound from what I recall. Early-mid August dog days it's usually pretty calm.

Hurricane Igor hit the North East that weekend. We ran on Saturday and the other "Offshore Racers" in New Jersey canceled on Sunday, because it was too rough.
This event runs regardless of the weather. If you are interested in a one off dawn flat calm ocean run, this is not the group you are looking for.

They are owned by a different group now and love the history of the race, but have no desire to get involved. I tried a few times since and same result.
