Just curious, how many people aggressively turn their step bottom boats in a pleasure scenario? I'm usually travelling in a straight line when trying to wring out any of the boats I've owned.

Yea, I definitely don't want any part of that, why did the boat do that? was that driver error or boat error?

I figure in a race on a rectangular course, the boats are making 4 90* turns and want to avoid slowing down, so they are really turning. The waters I boat on are pretty wide open. If I want to change direction, I can do it gradually, more of an arch.

Never heard of any incidents. Early step cigs had a few cases of spin outs.

I suspect that AVSs are a relatively milder step setup. 33s are known to be fast regardless due to being only 31’ of boat with twin big blocks.

They will turn sharp, and they do handle like a sports car, until they dont. You will know when they dont!

Do not turn hard or at speed with negative trim/drives tucked in! Do not, decelerate/back off the throttles in a turn. Either of these will increase your chances of swimming substantially

What and why would anyone have negative trim? or have drives tucked in while boating? when I put the boat in the water I put the drives all the way down and leave them there, until I put the boat back on the lift?

“all the way down” puts you at higher risk of spinning out because you’re lifting the stern more.
