30 Velocity, fast hull, simple, no frills cabin, built better then most all other options, classic good looks, easy to work on/roomy bilge.
If I wasn't too deep into my 272 Formula build I would own Ziemer's Boat.

2 mpg I'm shooting for the Long haul.

2 mpg would be very doable. With my big blocks I’m in the neighborhood but probably around 1.75. That’s cruising in the low 50’s.

Apache 28 Brave ? A little deeper than a 28 cig. I have zero experience with one but I just figured we could add it to the conversation. How about an earlier 29 Warlock world class ? I have a Tom Stolarz built 23 world class and it’s an amazing boat for its size. I would only imagine the 29 would be similar I know it has the look but once again I have no experience with a 29

For that size and style of boat, I dont think you can beat one of those Sonics.
The plush/heavy cabin costs in performance but for a real cuddy cabin they cant be beat.
The center section, filler cushion in the vee birth, is on a slide so it disappears under the main cushions when not in use.
And an enclosed head.

One of my top choices in that size/style and the only 30' that was any bigger than my twin O/B 24' sonic.

Bullit and Sonic much heavier than 30’ Scarab.

At cruise out of the four barrels you could achieve close to 3 MPG. @ 30 MPH.

150gal tank 400+ mile range.

Top speed guessing around 90-100 mph.

Put Silent choice on it and quient and efficient at cruise.

No problem ,it has a port side entrance to the half cabin and a back seat with two hatches the back seat hatch stores up front and the cabin cushions come out to cover all or part of the hatches ,removable engine hatch scoops remove and store up front also to make a full playpen from back of three man to transom.the boat is shrink wrapped for winter so i cant get new pics till spring ( she ran high 70s with stock 365s ) I'd take 15000.00 on a triple axle for it if you know of anybody .....happy new year!

Tough to beat one of the best, if not the best condition Scarab P-29 for your intended use with SBC's. Efficient hull, lay-up with Kevlar49 by Larry Smith team of guys in California. The second choice for me would be an Apache 28 Brave recommended by McManus or I bet You got some super connections yourself. I would find Cig Bullet and Scarab 31's too big for economy runs and too slow for speed runs with high perf. SBC's. Compliments on your fabulous Bertram 38 Competition and best of luck with your next boat project. Personally, I'm in love with a Nova 24 Sprint that was expertly restored and that imho is the coolest weekend Bahama boat available for sale. She's a bargain for what they've done to her. Basically, a new boat now that would give most 30' race boats a serious run for the money in some bad sea.

P.S. A few links to the specific P-29 boat for sale below and another post about the Nova below. D.S.

The completely restored 1969 Nova 24 Sprint. Don't know the boat or the yard. Just followed the resto online. Amazing boat and I appreciate the v-drives.

Ad for the Nova 24 Sprint.
