So let me get this straight. My wife, who is a elementary school teacher, and I raised two daughters who are now 21 and 19 respectively. The oldest graduated top ten in her class from high school. She graduates in two weeks from the University of Arkansas at the top of her class with a teaching degree. She is leaving college with about $10k in debt due to qualifying for numerous scholarships over the years. She has three interviews today for prospective teaching positions at local schools with one of them being the highest ranking public school in the state. She is getting married in July and her fiancé is currently a junior at the University of Arkansas where he is finishing up his engineering degree. He already has a job offer that will have him making over $200k a year the second he leaves school.
Our youngest is finishing up her freshman year in college where she plays soccer for the school she attends with almost a full ride for her athletic ability. We traveled for twelve years with her, as a family, so she could play club soccer and get to where she's at right now. She currently has a 3.4 gpa while playing for the school soccer team and will be an RA in her dorm next year.
All this was done by two parents that make a combined income of $120k per year and having them both in church 80% of the time the doors were open. Any person on this forum that has met both of this young ladies will tell you that they are very well behaved and mature beyond their years.
Tell me how that bad parenting thing works again, I seemed to have single handily screwed that up.

Quite a sweeping and—in my opinion based on the many boating families I know—incorrect generalization. Boating, go-fast or otherwise, is an amazing family activity. And if you establish priorities and balance, there's no reason for the activity to be an "either/or." Priorities and balance are everything.Originally Posted by TexomaPowerboater

I think you're taking Texoma's post too literally.
I think he's exaggerated a little on all points but what is true is that kids are expensive and you have to juggle boats, careers, finances and kids carefully. You also have to prioritize things a lot more carefully once you have a family, something I've learnt recently and it has certainly had an effect on my boating.
Boats are always there and always important but if you have to change your boating lifestyle for the benefit of your kids then that's a pretty small sacrifice.
