LOTO Boat Crash

12 Attachment(s)
I have been coming to LOTO since about 2008 back then we had no choice but to boat through the weekend now that I live here I don't bother going out on Fri-Sat. I don't now the real facts of the cash and only those on the boat would know but this person may want to consider wearing that kill switch lanyard.......

www.lakeexpo.com/boating/boat_crashes/update-large-wave-caused-powerboat-to-crash-through-a-dock-into-the-shoreline/article

The article says he wasn't ejected until he hit the shore so a lanyard wasn't the problem. Still yet another pretty crazy incident. I hope he recovers quickly from his "moderate" injuries.

Awash 08-30-2020 11:07 AM

I hear ya, but it also said the impact threw him against the cockpit and the boat did a hard right...which would leave me to believe that unless he had his anti gravity boots on he went hard left :D that's where my thinking a lanyard may have come in pretty handy (mine gives me about 18" max) but just pure speculation on my part...

It was unfortunate for sure

Mine would have cut the engine too in that scenario.

Oh I struggle to believe that story too.....

Drock78 08-30-2020 06:09 PM

It's not nearly as far fetched as the 42 legacy completely on shore at 5mph after supposed trim tab failure

rak rua 08-30-2020 06:42 PM

Boating while intoxicated............
Quod erat demonstrandum.

Loved that one

thirdchildhood 08-30-2020 07:42 PM

...

thirdchildhood 08-30-2020 07:44 PM

Drunk driving. That figures. The 42 also no doubt because the driver disappeared to take someone to a hospital.

Awash 08-30-2020 08:24 PM

I just noticed if you click on the picture in the article there are two more pictures of the boat (I missed those when I posted it), for being intoxicated he threaded the needle pretty good through that dock, especially while fighting to recover from that rogue cruiser wake ....

Drock78 08-31-2020 02:38 AM

Would be interesting to know how many on here talking crap are 100% sober every time they operate their boat, let alone in LOTO on shootout weekend.

Well that's hard to say but maybe you could do a survey post or possibly the board has survey function built in?

I limit myself to no more than one beer per hour and usually less. So maybe not 100% but well under .08. You really think everyone here drives their boat drunk?

Everyone,...no. but I see it happen at raft ups and bars all the time and especially at a weekend event like this. What I'm saying is that so many people that are quick to judge, do the same thing.

WARPARTY36 08-31-2020 10:19 AM

This accident was Saturday, but Thursday there were 391 BUIs at Loto. Most were around the state park.

Nate5.0 08-31-2020 10:42 AM

Well now there is a video of this on FB.

The cruise wake didnt come out of no where but he did hit a good launch off it before losing control and hard turning to the right into where the boat ended up.

Where did you find this info? There is nothing showing locally on this that I have seen.

The head of security at Camden was talking to a patrolman Friday morning.

I'm thinking it is bs? Nothing showing in Camden, Miller or Morgan counties is lining up with those numbers.

SB 08-31-2020 02:25 PM

391 BUIs at Loto but no arrests (up tilllast week) in Portland , WI, or NY ? Ummm, no. :)

391? Sorry but I say no way......

I boat on Cumberland and on the busiest weekend here, Poker Run there aren't even 1/16th of that number who are arrested for BUI and KDFWR officers can be pretty vigilant!

That number seems way to high. Even at the peak of partycove you maybe saw 50 of so people getting released after posting bond. I don't know if this statement it true but if you are not a full time local you also need to post bond for BWI.

Knot 4 Me 08-31-2020 07:34 PM

Watched the video. Just thankful no one, especially on another boat or on the dock, were injured.

Rookie 08-31-2020 08:12 PM

Wow, just watched the video. That is one of my pet peeves. D-bags jumping wakes for camera shots. He's lucky someone wasn't seriously injured or killed.

Indy 08-31-2020 08:21 PM

Looks to have bow steered hard right after landing. Can’t see what happens after that in the vid.

Nice flip phone video, real steady aim also.
Is the boat named Severe Turbulence? I can't make out the first word, just the S. How fitting. :lolhit:

I think the security guard was wrong. Think about processing 391 BUIs, could the cops even handle that amount? Think about a DUI checkpoint on land, they usually get 10-40 people in a 4-6 hour roadblock. Multiple cops, the mobile drunk tank bus, tow companies parked on site to haul away the cars. A water cop BUI has to take 90 minutes each from start to finish, arrest/take to land to be taken to jail, figure out what to do with the boat etc. Even with a dozen water cops working 10 hour shifts, that is only 6.7 arrests per cop per shift X 12 cops = 81 arrests in a 10 hour shift. I don't think cops want to work that hard.........

Neat trick:

Post your facebook link (OSO removes it from your post automatically). But if you quote your own post, the link will appear in your quote as a live link.

So I'll post the link here (but you won't see it until I quote myself again below)
