Look at the same link in the OP and thr post before. Boat was seen running today at the inlet just before this cracked post. Insinuating the crack is from that entry pass. |
Let's be realistic folks. As good as any Apache is, they're pretty much all old boats and have been run pretty hard for their entire lives. Ever heard of cumulative damage? Many years of pounding could have left it in pretty brittle condition. And that pass into the inlet? Hell, that's nothing for an Apache and I think it was driven pretty conservatively.
|
Nykamp on here runs that thing. Maybe he'll shed some light. That sucks though. :(
|
As much as it sucks, that boat will be repaired and used properly for years to come.
Great owner that enjoys the boat which is all that matters |
Pictures or it didn’t happen.

That is not repairable. Cold joint repair will never be safe again. Hull / deck are still available NEW. |
Aw, That is a kick in the pills, feel really bad for Nykamp.
|
I have read about the Apache boats for years and years and seem the videos on YouTube. What makes them so good in the rough? Was it the bottom design, stringer grid or just a heavy layup?
The 47’s look awesome flying through the air and they have a legendary following, but would like to understand what made them so good. My post is definitely not questioning their reputation. |
That was Lorne's baby... interesting to see what the future holds for it as the history behind the boat (was also Kramer's own race boat....) is it took him years to get it back after he sold it once.
Interesting damage... especially after seeing what Bellinger (sp?) did with Razz - granted 2 very different layups |
Boats break. New mystic and skater race boats have broke new. Airplanes have a duty cycle. It’s a boat not the holy grail. I’m sure it will get fixed and get right back at it.
|
Damn ...Here she was running 2 days ago (0:28)

Watched the vid a few days ago, its was one of the top 10 runs through that inlet IMO, not a surprise @ 47' a fracture would take place, he exercise's the boat and hopefully he'll become a repeat offender so others can see it. Hats of sir !!!

Its fiberglass, paper mache for big kids. fixable,
|
Glass Dave pick up the red phone please........
Love the Apaches, especially this 47. I am betting it will be back..... |

MEHHHH, its a boat poop happens.. fix it and run it... |
Yeah Apaches are not immune to rough water damage. Were the crack is I wonder if that is were the stern stringers transition to the bow via different pieces.
|
Very repairable.
I cracked 2 41 Apaches in the same place. The race boat was fixed by Skater, and continued to race. Nykamp had it for several years, and it’s still running around Michigan today |
30+ year old boat, s h ! t happens
Look at the 40 year old condo this week (actual video of the collapse) https://www.miamiherald.com/news/loc...252328493.html |

Looks to be running with the bow too high and landing too far back on the hull. Maybe some tab would've helped there. Easy to say sitting here though.
|
Its a shame!!!!! Love Apache's. But old boats can and do break!
|
Seems to me Pete Markey cracked Little Ceasar's (also 47') at a race out of Grand Haven Michigan many years ago. But I'm told LOTO is waaay rougher...😆

it "hinged". Long boats, a lot of leverage. Same exact thing happened to the RDS 45 Apache

Skater fixed the race boat, and it’s it’s still running around today. they can be repaired, and end up stronger than new. |

The one that went surfing at Maverick’s (half moon bay)
|
I am sure Loren will fix her up and make her stronger then ever, TNT takes care of her so she's in Good hands. She's so much fun to run, we kicked haul overs butt in January, Ride of a Life time. Skater made Allez Vite stronger then ever and she's run hard summer.
