Why do some people feel the need to make factual statements which imply expertise when in reality they donít have a clue. With proper scarf ratios, modern epoxies, reinforcements and proper execution, the repair can be stronger than the original glass/poly laminate. The risk is making the repair too stiff/strong and creating a hinge point where the original laminate fails further along the hull. The reality is E-Glass/Polyester have relatively poor fatigue performance so these old boats (which have a history of fatigue inducing operation) are running time bombs. Vinylester is a bit better but if you want a fatigue resistant hull, go epoxy and a moderate modulus carbon with selective use of S-Glass and Kevlar. In addition to the weight savings, Carbon/Epoxy laminates have extraordinary fatigue performance. Thatís yet another reason modern commercial aircraft are moving to these structures.

If it happened on the water, what did the occupants look like?

Look at the same link in the OP and thr post before.

Boat was seen running today at the inlet just before this cracked post. Insinuating the crack is from that entry pass.

Let's be realistic folks. As good as any Apache is, they're pretty much all old boats and have been run pretty hard for their entire lives. Ever heard of cumulative damage? Many years of pounding could have left it in pretty brittle condition. And that pass into the inlet? Hell, that's nothing for an Apache and I think it was driven pretty conservatively.

As much as it sucks, that boat will be repaired and used properly for years to come.

Great owner that enjoys the boat which is all that matters
