The other thing that saved them is skip straight up branded cigarette as the elite status symbol brand. Selling to princes, kings, presidents and billionaires all
over the world. A lot of people scoff at his deal with AMG but that’s no small feat. There’s never been a longer relationship with a boat company and a world renowned elite auto company. Skip
took cigarette further than any owner previous and really built it into an exotic brand specified for the rich and elite. Maybe you guys haven’t been paying attention. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Seems to me the new owner wants to exploit what has already been built and flood every market with cigarette. Keep the “is that a cigarette boat” typical comment alive and well.

like I said before, I’m optimistically skeptical. But look forward to what they do. They were EVERYWHERE in key west this year. Cigarette shirts being worn by bar backs in all the bars. Cigarette flags all down Duvall. Cigarette mentioned every other sentence at the races. The big black and white 51 running up and down the course all up in people’s faces all week. I even saw a “cigarette world champion races key west 2021” shirt being sold that had a cat on it LOL. (Kindve solidifies my concerns about TM control).

I don’t know about some of the other stuff they’re doing. But i do like hearing the expansion of building facilities, introducing new models and updating older models, etc. the jet ski and yacht and over saturate the name doesn’t excite me but the focus on updating and improving the actual product excites me a lot. We’ll see.
On top of all that, and Ive said this before, Braver era Cig's have some of the nicest rigging, fit and finish you'll ever find. Period. I hope that isn't lost in the new era.

Excellent points, Tank. I don't pretend to know or understand the company's directions under new ownership but I suspect that some initiatives will succeed and others will fail. Skip Braver, who for my money did more for the brand than anyone other than Don Aronow (and truth be told in my view, Braver did more than the iconic company's founder), had plenty of failure and success. But he never, ever stopped working.

It is natural for people to be skeptical when approaches to running a company differ from their own. But why anyone roots for failure baffles me.

The Diaz family and its partner have owned the company for all of seven months. Giving them a chance wouldn't be a horrible idea.

too focused on jet skis, monopoly paint jobs, and bartenders wearing t-shirts…

maybe they should have had the 22 year old CEO work the clothing shop

lol yet when skip bought cigarette and immediately filled the online store with new product and had the cigarette trailer with clothes and stuff everyone talked crap that he was a t shirt salesman. Hahaha. Can’t win for losing. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

however, I totally agree with you Dan. Cigarette lost out of making a metric ton of money on clothes in key west. PVC had some cigarette stuff but it was limited and the actual cigarette both had even less. They should have had their garment game on point before key west and ready for the holidays. HUGE missed opportunity there to make a lot of cash and to push out brand recognition with some new graphics and items.

if everything is sold out that tells me someone does not know how inventory control works. the biggest problem I see is that studies have shown that millennials and younger are far less likely to buy a car or even learn to drive. that will transfer over to speed boats and the like. the new generations want to sit back and look at their phones more than get out in the real world so that will make for a rough road.

Under skips ownership shirts and merchandise have been slowly going “sold out” over the past two years. It’s not just the new owner.

I’ve heard the “Millennials don’t buy stuff” argument about buying offshore boats in the future and I don’t buy it. Yeah, millennials for the most part don’t buy houses or cars or stuff. But big picture is these type boats aren’t sold to the general
masses. They’re sold to those with a passion for it and the elite. On top of that, the percentage of offshore boats sold by cigarette compared to the world population is like .0000000000000000000001%. And they’re doing more than fine. Point being, there will always be a customer base. Always.

Eric Christensen is a smart guy. Ruiz has the money, Eric has the boating and boat business knowledge. This partnership along with his son's energetic input will most likely equal success. Skip was a hammer and Bud was and still is the best "they built them one hell of a foundation to grow upon".
