A grudge race sounds fun! Wish we had more of them! But your tone in this thread does not come across very inviting. Hopefully I'm just taking it wrong but either way let's have some fun so this thread doesn't get shut down, OSO is too boring to have that happen lol!
Either way the lap times prove that the outboards just can't hang in the rough. Do you have any data to prove other wise? I'm sure it feels and looks like you are super fast out there during a poker run, I feel the same way! I pass dozens of boats that supposedly are faster and better than mine all the time! But who knows how much they are trying. Cool part about this data is we know everyone was trying.

Nope, we sold our 308 Skater.
Was just saying our buddy with a 340X with 450s always said he couldn't hang in rough water when we ran our Skater beside his 340X.
Seriously CLA, can we PLEASE get back to original conversation now?

Hard to happen when Skater30 is in the delta with the salvage 36 from Texas and was already involved in two bad skater accidents. PD has been a skater groupie for years and obviously is never going to buy a catamaran. TeamSaris should be TeamDreaming. These are all facts.
But hey I’m at the marina in key west and ready for these TALKERS.

I have 6 OPA World Championships and 3 OPA National Championships. We were one of the first Skater dealers. We've built and rigged and power many Skaters and Spectres for that matter that have set endurance records, kilo records, and won championships. I don't need to dream. I'm cool with facts and physics

Wow. This thread took a hard turn.
anyway, those are interesting stats Dale. We skipped heading to KW this year, too much going on, but daughter and son in law are down there. His team came out 2nd. 👍 in their class in an outboard MTI. Heard it was ROUGH and equipment took a beating especially on the outboard boats.
I think the point you were making is obviously true and backed up by the stats. The outboards just don’t hang as well in rough conditions as the I/O’s do. This was really the first huge water race I’d say. Especially a week of it. Brutal on the equipments. Motor mounts, lowers, etc. remember back in the old days the water really set the racers apart and the old fights between vee and cats offshore rough vs calm….
super cool stuff man. Thanks for posting.

Anyway, sorry to hear you didn't make it back this year, I know you always really look forward to it. And yes, my whole point about this thread was just analyzing the lap times and the disparity between the different classes. My buddies that were there said Sunday was a flat water race, so it's cool to also look at the lap charts from Sunday and compare them to Friday's rough water race. If anybody know the course length, we could figure out the lap average mph for each class, which would be pretty cool too. There's no bias to lap times and average speeds for racers that are giving it everything they've got! No doubt that as someone else mentioned, you never know who is running conservative and who's hanging it out at the poker runs, so that's not always a true indicator of a boats performance limits. I think we can all agree that the lead boats in any class at KW were giving it all they had though, especially in the beginning laps. The biggest surprise for me of Sunday's flat water race lap times was how close Class 1 and Super Cat were, I thought the Class 1 boats would've had a bigger gap on the Super Cats on flat water. I always hear how Class 1 boats are good for 160 mph, and I know that Super Cats are running mid 130s, so I expected a bigger gap in lap times. Anyway, just my observations, and since RWO is the only race promoter that posts lap times, it's the only time of year I get to geek out on this kind of info! Carry on friends..........

Offshore has been proving that for years. Great data Skater30. Back in the mid 90s they combined ProStock (triple outboard cats) with Modified (same size boats but I/O) MAINLY because all the ProStock guys were claiming the same top speeds as the M boats. Simply put, it was slaughter. The added weight and better balance of the I/O cats gave them a huge advantage. It's exactly why a twin outboard MTI, Skater, DW whatever does nothing for me. Ill take the 700/M6 boat all day long.
Yup. There's a reason I refer to I/O boats as "powerboats" and OBs as "outboards".
Thanks. Brad.
