Default Startup outside boat

Any ideas on how to get water pump on motor to turn when starting motor outside the boat? Have belt off of power steering so dont burn pump up and that connects to water pump. Surely its been done before but I cant seem to figure it out.

Just redid the heads and want to set timing and check things over before I install in boat.

use a garden hose to push water thru the engine its pretty easy to adapt a hose fitting

unless your power steering pump is empty, why would you take the belt off? if there's fluid in there it will run just fine with the belt on and boat out of water.
I'm sorry if i haven't noticed what boat/engine/drive combo you have in other postings but you don't mention what you have here. If its a bravo drive then either put muffs on the drive and feed it with a garden hose or disconnect the hose from the transom connection and stuff the garden hose down the hose and run it. The seawater pump will force water into and through the block without the main engine circ pump running.
If you have an Alpha drive then you will absolutely need the muffs on the drive as the water pump is inside the drive that feeds the engine. And you will probably need the engine water pump belt on there as well cause im not sure if theres enough "umph" from the drive pump to feed it through the engine properly.

496BB,

I made a fitting to connect the outgoing and incoming hoses in the PS circuit. Then I just filled the reservoir and let it circulate the fluid. Worked great. I'm betting you could assemble a couple OTC fittings that would accomplish the same end goal.

Thanks. Brad.

Got any pics of this setup?

And its a HP500 Carb engine outside the boat. So someone is saying I dont need the actual motor water circation pump working while running? I mean I did already do this but only for a minute or two before I realized the ps belt also is the wp belt.

496BB,

I do not. But it's not complicated. Take your high pressure PS hose to a hydraulic shop and they will know what fitting you have. They should be able to match you up with a mating fitting. From there, you just have to Frankenstein some fittings to get back to your low pressure return line.

I had my engine completely assembled, with all systems functioning. I made up a manifold to accept two garden hoses, with a 1-1/4" barb fitting, and connected it to the hose that goes to the input side of my seawater pump, then connected hoses from two separate sources to it.

Thanks. Brad.

Oh! outside the boat ...as in on an engine stand! stupid me i was reading this as just not in the lake....ie...on a trailer
Yes if you have a sea water pump that's belt driven off the motor, it will force feed the motor with water.

Return is just a 3/8 rubber oil hose.
psi linewill haveeither flare fitting or saginaw fitting at it’s end. Take a pic and show us, if you don’t know what either look like.
