Shoes on boat or not?

I was reading a description in the Sonic Forum of how a boat was treated and realized that not everyone who wears shoes on a boat is struck by lightning! I absolutely don't allow it. The only exception being elderly relatives who can't reach their shoes to remove them! What do you do?

traviss 01-13-2003 08:05 PM

If your wearing shoes around my boat you better learn how to walk on water, cause your not getting in the boat :D

US1 Fountain 01-13-2003 08:11 PM

Either shoes or bikinis. You decide which. :p

Waterfoul 01-13-2003 08:12 PM

I have a carpeted floor. I also have bad feet. I wear shoes. I also bring mine with me when I boat with others and ASK if I may wear them (they are always non-making kinds of shoes). I respect the boats of my friends more than my own. I allow shoes if people respect mine. On the carpet only. NEVER on the vinyl. Never on the deck, though I have on the off occasion that timing does not allow me to take them off...hitting a piling or dock for instance.

Therefor, I didn't vote.

Playn 01-13-2003 08:17 PM

No shoes!

HyperBaja 01-13-2003 08:23 PM

everone has them off, cept me, i wear moccasins EVERYWHERE.

paradigm shift 01-13-2003 08:25 PM

I have to go with waterfoul and too old. Inside the boat OK but not on the vinyl and certainly not on the deck! Does that count as NO shoes?

OR > Either shoes or bikinis. You decide which. :D

Thunder Roy 01-13-2003 08:27 PM

ONLY DECK SHOES AND WHITE SOLE TENNIS.
NO SHOES OF ANY KIND ON DECK OR UPHOLSTERY

Bam Bam 01-13-2003 08:34 PM

Take your shoes off, or take off.

fred 01-13-2003 08:35 PM

I go with the same rules as Too Old and Waterfoul....never use shoes on the vinyl....always wear a deck shoe....Fred

We have decals we put on the boat that say "no Shoes" with little feet. :D You want a ride....you take'em off:eek:

Big E 01-13-2003 09:24 PM

I was at Big Thunder Marina last summer at Lake of the Ozarks and was walking by a couple of new Bajas they had for sale and I noticed on the top side of the gunwale just before you get into the boat (its the side of the boat you step over to get in it), it says "Naked Feet Only" I thought that was a good idea, plus it looked kind of cool. Eric

obnoxus 01-13-2003 09:32 PM

I agree,,, NAKED FEET ONLY !!!!!!!!

I have had peole tell me NOT to take my shoes off on there boats,,, I still do,,, out of respect

Cord 01-13-2003 09:39 PM

I don't mind shoes. Guess, I'm not anal with the clean thing. Natually, they need to be clean, and they absolutly won't touch the vinyl. Have to remind the mrs of that almost every time. Lesson learned.

R Addiction 01-13-2003 09:55 PM

No Shoes unless an emergency!!!!

MnHowardCat 01-13-2003 09:56 PM

I feel the same way. I have a dark gel coat on the bow and some body ran across it with shoes on. You can still see the scratch marks even after compound and polish. Just my feelings.... Bob

outlawinil 01-13-2003 10:08 PM

Hey BIG E I bought my boat at Big Thunder and everytime I took it in for warranty work the service guys put on those little footies that doctors wear in hospitals. Thought that was cool.

Rippem 01-13-2003 10:53 PM

I have allowed non-marking sneakers to be worn during poker runs. They make for sure footing and support the tootsies if your gonna be standing alot in rough conditions. Other that that one exception...NO SHOES PLEASE...on any surface of the boat at any time, and yes, that includes the ladies. Start with the shoes and see where it goes :D

BattleCry 01-13-2003 11:14 PM

White sole deck shoes and for me Birkenstocks.

Waterfoul, I've have problems with my feet and so I bought Birkenstocks for sandals and they have been a godsend. Over a hundred bucks for size 15 but well worth it.

Douggie Fresh 01-13-2003 11:15 PM

No Shoes at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wwwTOPDJcom 01-13-2003 11:49 PM

I'm with the majority.

Although I think I am going to implement what "paradigm shift" does. You can wear either shoes or a bikini.:D

deck shoes or tennis shoe's are ok....but please stay on the towels...I've seen way to many people fall on damp top decks.

Jana 01-14-2003 07:19 AM

I wear shoes because my ankles are kind weak and I want the support. I do wear them on deck because I almost slid off going barefoot when the deck was wet. My passengers may, as long as they're appropriate boating shoes. I put towels over all my vinyl for getting on and off the boat.

ROUGH WATER 01-14-2003 07:45 AM

no damm shoes, my friends wife always tries to step on the back seat after walking through a gravel parking lot at the marina, ???? what the f..., of coarse you should see her van...yuck, that goes for the deck too, I can understand the saftey issue as mentioned above but what about rocks stuck in your tread? can you say scratches or worse? just go bare foot and be carfull!

Dock Holiday 01-14-2003 07:53 AM

NO SHOES ALLOWED

NO EXCEPTION

I always have folks wanting to get aboard and see the boat. I have NEVER turned a request down. My first comment is "Remove Your Shoes and climb aboard".

There has only been one time a guy refused to take his shoes off, and he DID NOT board my boat.

It works both ways, I would NEVER board someone else's boat with shoes on. You can always tell if someone owns a boat or not?

pwrbotr 01-14-2003 08:10 AM

no shoes EVER! I love it when you invite a lady and she shows up with 2 inch black soles and *****es when you ask her to take them off. WTF, i tell them they can keep the shoes on when they make the payment!

Dave M 01-14-2003 08:14 AM

I don't mind shoes that much, except for black bottom shoes. I prefer to wear shoes when driving. I also boat very early (Mar/APR) and late (Nov/Dec) into the season when it is still pretty cold. I dont have carpet, but I do have an all white interior that is hard to keep clean.

Reckless32 01-14-2003 08:24 AM

I wear a pair of soft-sole'd slip on deck shoes when running offshore (protects the toes when it really gets crappy) and for walking on the beach (slip'em off and nice clean feet climbing back in the boat). I think this is a great idea especially if you beach up a lot and climb off (guests included). Otherwise, no gym shoes, or hard bottomed sandals. Now I must honestly admit I do invoke the special guest exception once in a while but I supervise closely their embarking/debarking...

Brad 01-14-2003 08:43 AM

I allow high heels but only in the cabin! :bunny:

Thunder1 01-14-2003 08:44 AM

Not allowed... The only problem encountered was with a female customs officer in the Bahamas... She insisted she was getting on the boat in heels which was out of the question for me... She finally agreed to do the paperwork on a table at the marina...
