What type of stereo system do you have in your boat??

When partying in the boat, I think you must have the bumpin system to liven up the parlay!!;) :D
Who else thinks this to be true?? What are you guys running for stereos??

I myself am running a moderate system for the boat. 600 watts 12 speakers...two 12" subs (PPI), two amps (PPI), two sets of seperates (MB Quart), two stock speakers (for the cabin), Clarion deck. Going to do some upgrades here shortly;) :D

KCHOTBOAT 02-24-2003 10:46 PM

Mine is junk. I count on my friends with their big stereos.

ChrisK 02-24-2003 11:03 PM

packinair 02-24-2003 11:14 PM

1100 watts, 4 6 1/2 " componats with external tweeters 6x9's ,6 disc changer, remote to the driver seat so I don't have to reach 2 feet over. everything is clarion marine except the self powered 12" bazooka tubes. there is just NO room for anymore speakers

BillR 02-25-2003 06:47 AM

What does a guy who has been in the audio business for over 25 years do in his boat?
Well,
Here's mine:

1:Sony CDX-MP70 Am/Fm/CD
2:XM satellite radio
3:original (back when they were really good sounding) Soundstream 4 ch Amp running 4 McIntosh componet speakers w/ external X-Overs.
4: Original Soundstream (D200) amp running a pair of Kicker 10" free air subs X-over at 84Hz
5: MA audio speakers in cabin. Soon to be swapped out w/ new ones.

All the speaker levels we calibrated with a DB meter. X-over freq were swept with spectrum analizer (sp?).

The system doesn't have that "ethnic" sound which I intensely dislike, but is more of an accurate sound.

HyperBaja 02-25-2003 07:41 AM

LivingLoud,

You need to post some pics of your stereo:eek:

thisistank 02-25-2003 04:11 PM

Hey Livin Loud....How the hell do you keep your batteries charged. I find I kill alternators AND batteries running what little I'm running. How are you running the batteries??

OBNOXUS21 02-25-2003 04:54 PM

Sheesh.......and I thought watching the bear cans hop around on the deck was loud and very amusing, but DAMN!
That's some cool stuff :)

4-MTX 10s
2-6X9 with 2 more to go
2-6 1/2's with two more to go

LIVING LOUD 02-25-2003 05:03 PM

thisistank,

The 4 extra batteries are isolated when the boat is not running and I also have a generator. The 50 farad capacitor helps the batteries.

27 Fountain,

The stereo system was finish the night before I left for the Key West Pokerrun - and then I left it at Sonic and it is still there. I just spoke with Stu and have plans to join the Spring Break run to Key west. I have not made any pictures of the system. I will post some pictures when I return. The installer has about 400 hours in the installation.

thisistank,
You definatly need to look at your grounding.
most guys build a killer system but dont pay that much attention to the Ground.
It needs to be as heavy as the power leads.
remember OHM's Law.

eMotiondriver 02-25-2003 05:18 PM

Twin outboards, I let the friends leave hours before and meet then on there Magnum or Trojan my boat is considered the jet ski...

Waterfoul 02-25-2003 06:19 PM

While not huge, it does well for me (well being a relative term....as money presents itself, I add to it!!).

Kenwood head unit with remote.
JBL 4 channel amp (300 watts) running 2 6" round and 2 6"x9" Pioneer (hey, they were almost free!!) speakers.
Fosgate Punch 200 for the
2 10" JL Audio subs.

Still tweaking it though....need more power. Going to add some subs I have laying around to the cabin. Use it as a sub box. Wanna see them beer cans bounce!!!

GO4BROKE 02-25-2003 06:20 PM

Moderately loud:Sony cd w/remote(the one with the motorized face plate), 600watt 4 channel amp, 4 6x9 tri-axial poly planars, 2 10" Blaupunkt subs, 2 6" sony co-axials. 2 more 6" to be added soon.

Indy 02-25-2003 09:08 PM

I guess I'm the minority here, I don't care to listen to any music when I'm out. I love boating because it's an escape from everything on land; phones, work, compter, chores, etc. I might tune in the occasional Yankee game though. Mostly it's nice just to listen to the sounds of the water when the engine isn't going.

obnoxus 02-25-2003 09:29 PM

12" Sub,,, couple sets of Kenwood seprates,,, 400 watts,,,, middle of the road here.

BattleCry 02-26-2003 02:18 AM

bikinilover 02-26-2003 06:59 AM

Where and how are you guys mounting your subs? I have a couple of 10" kickers I need to mount and I have heard to many different stories on how to mount them from car stereo guys. I need input fom boat people.

I also will be installing:
2 Channel 350W Kenwood Amp
4 Channel 500W Rockford Fosgate Amp
Already in the boat:
Clairion Marine CD Player
6 - 5 1/2" 100W Clarion Speakers

Any advice on how to hook up and mount this would be helpful!

Zanie 02-26-2003 07:37 AM

1 Attachment(s)
Thanks to reading ALLOT of posts on the subjet here at OSO and some help from FWK (Forrest), I am really happy with my system:

Sony CD unit (somthin' -660 me thinks)
Access Technologies wireless remote
4 - Babbs 6X9s
2 - Infinity Perfect 10s in sealed boxes built into my back seat
Sony Xplode 4 channel XM475 running the Babbs
MTX Thunder 6500D running the Infinities

Here's a shot of my back seat before upholstery. The subs have sealed boxes (glassed on the inside) and face out the sides and the 6X9s face out the front. I lost some storage room, but I also changed out my 20 gallon freshwater tank for a 6 gallon.

dyno 02-26-2003 09:53 AM

If you can hear the stereo you aint runnin hard enough! If you want to sit and listen to the music you should buy a pontoon boat and have a generator and a home stereo, that kicks the **** out of 12 volt crap any day!!!!

klaw 02-26-2003 10:00 AM

I never saw the stereo in Kangaroo Rat but the shop taht did the install posted some of their invoices for it.
They had 1,396.5 hours (not dollars but labor hours) of labor in it.
I can't imagine what the whole system cost was.

ragtop409 02-26-2003 01:45 PM

I dont have anything in my Wellcraft yet. But I had 1 Boston Pro sub glased into the bow of my Mastercraft the big ADS 6 chanel amp Audio Control electronic X-over and 2 sets of Hart 6 1/2 componet mids and 4 tweeters to match. It was loud enoph to hear it clearly over the exhaust at 22mph and at the end of a 35' rope. Charlie

madbouyz 02-26-2003 02:05 PM

For me indy and dyno sum it up perfectly :)
If I want sounds other than that of a happy motor I take along
a small Sony third world briefcase.Environment's too harsh on even a nice sound system and I like to keep the boat on a diet.. some of those systems must weigh as much as another small block !
ps I can always just listen to the sounds emanating from all the grasshopper's Sea Rays in the distance.. not that it's my kind of music :chimp:;)
