I just picked up a Chevy trailering guide a couple days ago, so this is what they are rated for. It looks like you have to go 2500HD or 3500 with an 8.1 or the Duramax and a fifth-wheel hitch to get over 15000#. You also need to go with the 4.10 axle. Ratings go up to 12000# on a ball hitch.

I have the 2003 Dodge brochure in front of me. It says 16,500 with the 3500 and the HO diesel. It also says all loads over 10,000 should be pulled with a goose neck or a fifth wheel.

The new dura max deisel will pull your boat no problem.
I've pull my brothers apaches back from Fla. twice the truck did great. He had the 2002 dura max dualie.I also towed them up to 1000 islands new york an it pulled the hills nicely |
We pull over 20,000 lbs with Powerstroke 1 tons and BBC 1 tons. 5th wheel set up. YOu know it's back there, but they will pull. I would think the Duramax is fine as well.

Just watch your insurance - you might not be covered if you're exceeding the tow rating on your truck. And you definitely don't want to find out about something like that the hard way!
