Regardless of which boat... Twins really won't burn much more at the same speed as a single.

I have a friend with a 27 Fountain/502MPI. He burns dam near the amount that I burn... Difference is that he has to wring the snot out of that engine all the time to keep a decent pace, where as I cruise at 4,000 or less RPM.. His boat will run 65, and no more...

Something else to consider if you're looking at used boats. Chances are that a "large" boat with a single engine has been run WFO a lot more than a comparable boat with twins.

Don't rule out looking at a Sonic. A friend of mine has a 26 with single 502MPI. Very nice riding/handling boat. 64mph. But, like any big boat with only 415hp... slow as a donkey coming on plane.. He smoked two drives before he realized he needed an XR...

You may have your reasons for wanting a single, and that's fine.. But be sure you've got more than 415 hp....

And, the offer is still there for you to take a ride on my boat.. buy it or not.. I just wanna go for a ride

Tim, thanks for the offer,,, were going to hit the NY boat show after christmas and were thinking of heading down to Miami in Feb. for the boat show. Like I said were not really looking to buy new just see what fits best and take it from there.

I saw in the other thread about the perfect 25-28 that the Pantera cockpit felt and rode very high and see that Jo replied back that they lowered it this year... I rode in a friends 28 scarab and it felt like we were riding on top of the deck kinda hairy.

as for the sonic,, three friends have prowlers, 2 99's and an 03 2 w/ 502's and one w/ hp 500 the two 502 run 67 and 69 the hp runs 78 w/ extension box and msd, as nice as the cabins are,,, the cockpits are pretty cramped... its a consideration but not high on the list..

Jo cuts the area under the driver/passenger seat down about 4" to get you lower in the boat.
He can do it on older boats as well.
I'm thinking I'll have him do it to my boat if I don't sell it before the Poker runs start back up...

The angled and padded footrests are great, and let you lean back into the seat a bit more, thus you are lower..

Rear seat freeboard is fine.

Yah, the wrap around is a nice touch but you loose like 6 inches per side and it makes the cockpit feel even smaller because of how deep it is. We dont spend much time in the cabin, so a nice "roomy" cockpit is essential as well as a nice laid out cabin, usually a V with facing lounges would suit us fine.

I know everyone says it, but having to sell my boat first or trade is holding things up. Just called an eliminator dealer he says 80 flat for a 26 eagle w/ HO and trade or 75 w/ out a trade,,, so basically he told me that whatever my trade is worth, knock off 5 grand,,,kinda sucks..

Tim... Eliminator is a possibilty as well as Nordic, but I have never been in either of these boats,,, seems they fit the type of styling and have the performance i'm looking for,,, thats why were interested in going to miami to check all these out. The NY show really doesn't have much regarding 26-28 performance boats,, mainly 27 fastechs, 27 fountain, 27 baja, and thats about it..

I'd like to see some 26-28 powerquests's, 26 eagles, 28 heat, 28 thunder, maybe a 26-28 velocity...
