Made it to the dock. :) Got some new gas......went out to see how things are working. Everything seems to be in pretty good working order but the steering is stiff and seems to want to pull to port. Gonna check it in a few days. We had a good day overall.

That is one really neat boat and one really great restoration/project. I have never seen one of these before and found your thread fascinating reading. Best of luck with this and whatever comes next, but I must say, this looks just great and looks a ton of fun.

Dan Here's a little update on this "project" boat. The last engine build didn't turn out so well (again) as I had numerous problems. Sick of the various issues last year, and wanting to move on (and actually use the boat in a reliable fashion) we decided to start from scratch again! Location: South Coast Shipyard Newport CA We pulled all three engines and had SoCal local Pfaff/Baca redo all of them again. After the engines were done, we also had Fred with IMCO come down and review the design of the factory exhaust systems. There were improvements to be made. Well, we custom fabricated all new risers again as we also installed new IMCO power flow manifolds. The shipyard went through all three outdrives again as well. Next, we added custom IMCO tie bars and stainless steel drive showers. We have only sea trialed the boat a few times and then decided in early December to do some cosmetic updates to the boat to complete it. WOW....has this gotten out of control! :D |

The boat is/has been completely stripped now (December 2012), sanded and is being repainted top to bottom. We are redoing the dash again as there were some peeling issues with the last job, polish all the rub-rails, all new cockpit vinyl, new stainless table pedestal and custom teak table top, we are LED lighting various areas like the removable rear quarter panels, in the cockpit area as well as the cabin. We already have OceanLed underwater lights. Also, the bilge had NO lighting from the factory so we are adding four LED fixtures from Hella Marine. One thing that I think might look cool is to light up the rear a little bit with LED lighting......the area where there are those horizontal "steps" on the back? They actually have cut outs under them that serve as air vents to the bilge so it might be easy. Two more Livosri LED lit cup holders are going in as well in the cockpit area.

Thought about making a change on those removable quarter panels.........but am now leaning towards keeping them blue. These are also being LED back lit in white......thoughts anyone?? Wife says BLUE.
|
Not white that's for sure, maybe a chrome wrap to match the chrome on the windows and give it a little bling :coolcowboy:
|
Yes. Wife is right! Nice classy ride.
|
Wow. That is quite a project but is going to be incredible when it's done. Oh, and agree keep em blue.

personally I would agree with your wife - the white draws too much attention and would make a person ask, "What's that for??" - chrome could also work like on the mega yachts

Dude, collette must be ready to ring your neck!!! :eekdrop:
Looking good though bro. I hope everything finally comes together as it should for you. |

Tank are you kidding? For now I've just told her I'm having a few cosmetic updates done. LOL :D :D It's true though! Did you notice the whole windshield is off too. The deck hatches are off being repainted too.

Nort, thanks for the updates. Great thread to follow, and to see the progress. She's gonna be a beauty when you're done!
|
Maybe you should make them gold so you can keep reminding yourself that you could have purchased a mega yacht by now! LOL If Gold is not your style then she is correct blue looks better.
|
Nort, why not diesels? I'm sure you've made the decision by now and have reasons to stay gas, but in a few projects on trucks that I've worked on, when we've done motors in trucks that are too small, they have more gremlins than we can chase. It's almost like the motor is revolting for being put in too big a truck :angry-smiley-038:
20K pounds on trip 502's just seems like a lot of strain. $.02 from the peanut gallery is all. The boat is absolutely gorgeous!! |

It has to always be worked on! :D :D In reality, I bought it to do a quick update, keep for a year, have some fun and then sell. One thing leads to another and here we are 9 years later. It's a rare boat out this way and not too many in the US. The engine issues have been figured out. Besides the "previous build" issues, the original exhaust design was poor at best. Even though we thought we had it licked before, the crappy Mercury manifold junction was the weak link. That issue is now gone too with all new IMCO stuff. The majority of these boats were built with diesel engines and are slower, and they also reside in Europe where gas is super expensive. At this point, changing to diesel will require me to change the hull too. :D :D |

More rebirth progress, but outside paint on hold now due to rain........in SoCal? :D :D Blue is nearly done, grey strip below that......new top to waterline hull paint done.

Yikes!
We're taking ours down to PYR in San Diego in about a month to have some under water work done. I keep thinking about painting a new boot stripe on our Superhawk, then I start reading this thread... It's like pulling on a loose thread on a wool sweater, pretty soon you end up with a pile of yarn. We just spent a few days with the Picketts on Milk Money, now Ang wants to sell and get a Hat or something similar, maybe that will be more affordable.... |

Our goal is still to move to a 50-60 footer......but we'll see. It might be easier to get a 1/4 share in a boat, or just charter one and plan real trips in unknown (to us) places. :D :drink::drink: Maybe even charter this boat out.... :drink: |
Boats down that way now anyway and we're planning some trips SOB, but we'll see how all that goes. Everyone is freaking out over the cartels.
Have you seen what the weather is like up here and where would we go on the Bay with that boat anyway, Sams? Dock space is too tight. We can't go to the City because I dont like the smell of patchouli oil and most courtesy docks only allow Hybrids or blowboats. Dan at PYR owes me a favor or two so the work is gratis. And yes, it's another excuse to go south. |
Right now we have the same weather. Rain for 3 days.
