Up Here in Norway, the incurance is very variable. But I checked it up and my Boat is 1000$ more expencive a year with a gasoline engine.

I pay 1100$ a year for my boat, if it had a gasoline it would be 2200$
it is insured for everything; theft, damages,fire,personal injury and so on.
the value of the boat is set to 72000$.

I think the diesel engine will be the new thing in powerboats soon. In Europe they sell no more diesel cars than gasoline gars.

Take a look at BMW and Audi Mercedes all of their top of the line models is optional delivered with diesels.

with all the new high pressure system (commonrail)
and advanced computer-controlled diesel engine, we will see motors that can produce more and more power.

A friend of mine Is at the moment building a new boat just the same as mine.

He has been promised 66miles from Steyr.

He is installing Steyr diesel engines with bravo xr drives.
the out put of this engine is 260hp and 4300 rpm at the propshaft and it weights 708lbs thats includes the bravo xr drive also.
it is a commonrail engine.

check out this website for more info.

Duramax 6600

Do any of you have experience with these motors?? I think they would make a great boat motor ,add closed cooling and figure out some exhaust cooling . IT would also be fairly quiet from the turbo any thoughts??? andrewmasonsr

Steyr is selling complete engines and outdrives.
Steyr engine, mercruiser bravo 1-2-3.

can also be delivered with hurth trensmissions.

They are with closed cooling and all.

It is offcource more noise in a diesel than a gasoline engine. but these new motors are quite silent.

The duramax 6600 has not been released to the marine marked yet.

More info I found was:

Considering the powerplant,

Horsepower = Velocity

Torque = Efficiency, disregarding weight

I agree with C-Spray, desired propeller shaft rpm can be achieved in both gas and diesel with gearing.

Generally as the weight per drive goes up, the gear ratio is further reduced and the propeller diameter is increased.
