Sorry for my ignorance.....would either of these cause a leak out the wheephole tho? All those sound external... I am by no means a diesel tech, so i'm hoping you are right.!

I own a 04 duramax and know several people who have same truck and it is not a common problem. As far as rear main i'm not familar with the duramax specifically but on all other modern gm motors the seal can be changed by pulling trans and flywheel,i wouldn't worry about it,it was probably just 1 in 100,000 that had a assembly prob with the seal(most likely defective or ripped). As long as person fixing it isn't a retard just get it fixed and enjoy the truck,Smitty

Yes, they could when oil pressure is up. The first one especially....Its all in that area...It would blow back... I think the first one is your problem, I could be wrong I run the store but I talked to one of my managers in service....
