Was he that bad of a guy?? Didi anybody here know Ben, Sal magluta or willie falcon? What the deal?

I did an a few more, if you were a racer back then, they were part of the program.
after 8 years of racing you meet alot of interesting people an they were not all from Florida. |

In 1979 I went to work for Howard Quam. The boat was #45 "Flapjack" and I was to replace Keith Hazell as his throttleman. I remember Sal and Willie showing up to the after-race dinners with the most beautiful Hispanic women I'd ever seen. I didn't get to know them personally, but they were always nice to me if I ever was around. Once before a race I remember Sal telling me: "Be safe out there.". I thought that was cool because he really didn't KNOW me, just recognized I was a racer. I didn't meet Ben until the late 1980s when I worked for Everglades Marina. Everglades had an office for a short time at Ft. Apache Marina. Our paths didn't cross again until after he was "away" and he called the Apache display at the New York boat show and I happened to answer the phone. His father liked me and obviously had told Ben because he knew who I was and was very nice to me over the phone. It was like talking to a celebrity because I had heard so much about him. Sorry for the trip down memory lane! |

What site would that be? Lockedupdrugdealers.com ? :D I know of a few people that consider him a friend. I think had a lot of people that liked hanging around his money and influence. He probably was a nice guy untill you crossed him up in his "bussines". I think he is sitting exactly where he belongs. |

I hate to spoil the energy and excitement that this thread has developed (just like the others), but do the crime and do the time! I can't feel sorry for somebody who plotted against another individual and had them killed. Especially being jealous over a business deal one which he did due diligence on and signed a contract. I have a very good friend who committed an embezzelment crime. In fact, he was not only a good friend of mine but also Rice Hauler's. Rob (AKA Rice Hauler) and I, our girlfriends and our friend and his entire family (wife and three lovely children) spent many weekends for years together boating, weekend trips to casinos by boat, multiple poker runs, dinners, etc etc again, for years. All of a sudden one day this issue arises and our friend is wisked away to jail for 2.5 years. I feel sorry for his family but also realize what he potentially did to other peoples lives and business was not right. Unbeleiveably a gentle man, personable beyond beleif, never a cross word about anybody and a great family man. I was always incredibly impressed with the way he treated his family. Here, you are trying to exemplify a person for cold blooded murder. I beleive we have better things to talk about even if it is in the uncensored section. My friend's victims are still alive and walking around. Bret, if you are having a weak, sentimental, lonely few minutes at home, get your friends and family in the boat and do something in the sun today. |

No question that these guys were the worst of the worst. I think what makes them a little intriguing though is that they shared a common interest with lots of us on the board which is offshore racing. Another thing which is kind of interesting is that Falcon and Magluta were actually "dropouts" from a high school here in Miami and yet they were able to build and a multi billion dollar business and several other businesses. I read an article in The New Times once that stated that these guys owned, or had part in several hundred businesses, (I would imagine for the laundering part). It's amazing. I think if these guys would have put their minds into something legal, they would have been very successful at the end of the day instead of behind bars for the rest of their lives.

Hey, as far as drug dealers go they are very interesting to me as well. Maybe it's the way they appear in the stories of a few, but to me they were waaaaay more colorful than today's filthy animal drug dealer(s). I blame it on pop culture.
As an aside, I firmly believe that if you live by the sword then you will die by it also. Most of the homicides that I am familiar with, involve (Both victim and suspect) like individuals. Sorry, I know... But it's true. |
