as far as the kilo record goes any length v-bottom can play, and what wich manufacturer wants to run is their decision.

Come on Panther, the 39' OL would be alot bigger than a 40' Fountain (which is a 34' boat plus a beak and a swim platform!!) :D :drink: :evilb: :evilb:

WOW OL is trying to break the top speed record again, big surprise. Well OL can trash talk thats about all they have been good at oh yea and make excuses, why they arn't the fastest. This competion has actually just gotten ridiclous, OL needs to put up or shut up, the more they trash talk the more I loose respect for them. :(

I hope they both live through this . I heard Reggie was going to the N.Y.C. poker run this year. Can't wait , even if he just brings a stock 42 it will be fun.

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts

Fountain has to get the speed record and keep it because it's the ONLY thing they would have over OL.

I am sure most of us have looked at boats both have built and the OL is by far nicer.

OL has to get the speed record because they cost so much and they want to say they have the fastest best built boats thats why they cost so much.

It will be fun to watch until somebody gets hurt, I would like to see builders like Nortech, Cig, Skater and a few others that could build a boat to go that fast jump into it and mix it up a little. It gets a little boring watching the same two fight all the time.

Maybe if they wern't doing this OL wouldn't cost so much a take 2 years to get, and customer service at Fountain wouldn't suck so bad.

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts

Why should the brand of boat matter? Is the hull even touching the water at those speeds?

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts

For the cost of a new 39 OL with 1075s versus a 42 Fountain with 1075s.... The OL should be twice as fast.

....and customer service boils down to your Dealer 999 times out of 1000.

i think thiis thred is wondering as all threds do on oso ttt, but the article was to just show ol was going for a new speed record. this is not about reggies "RUG" blowing offcor him in a canopy, or who could win in reggies sand box (time to grow up he still plays in sand boxes ttt) and just for info thats all. like i said and others said no one get hurt and lets all play together.

Should have the NHRA cars stop racing when they broke the 200mph mark???

Tracie,

I know you are partial to Fountain because you were crew chief for Shockwave a few years back, but honestly, without manufactures pushing their boats to the limits then we all lose the innovations that come with it.
Do you think we would have canopied boats if it weren't for the people learning from their mistakes?
Do you think we would have the handling of these offshore boats that we have today if it were not for them being put to the limits?

Back in the earlier days it was just a few designs and one by one they were splashed off the other. No new designs, just a different name on the same hull design.
Today, we finally have people trying to improve the designs and make them more effecient.
Who are we to tell them to stop?
Hell, I would rather get my boat to go fast and handle well than worry about how it would do in the rough.
Most customers will not be out on a race course in the first place. So if Reggie and Mike can improve the handling for the everyday user by doing what they do, then I say let them go for it!

As far as insurance? The companies make their own rules as they go along. They know who and what is the worst risk out there and will charge them accordingly if they choose to insure them. I wouldn't sell them short. They are smarter then some might think.

Do you think it helped the cats back in the 90's with all the incidents those boats were involved in on the race course?
Whether you run in a straight line or in a circle, it just won't matter. The insurance companies will do what they want. ;)

It hasn't stopped anyone before, except those that have passed on.

My point is, people will always push the envelope and we all will learn something from it.

Hi Indy
We did not win the worlds due to a coupler letting go during the second race. We did win the Wednesday race with a Cigarette just seconds behind us. I can't recall how far back the Fountains were that were still running. We also took home several divisional titles along with many checkered flags.
Even though we didn't win the worlds, I know what it feels like to win in Key West!! :drink:

Harry Turner has been racing Outerlimits hulls since 95, all called Obsession. He ran in P2 class in Key West against Fabio.

Whatever happened to Media Master? Wasn't that a canopied Outerlimits?

Just another example..........Bojoe,

In my day as a Professional BMX Racer, people just started doing backflips on bikes. As time went on, it progressed to doing back flips on Motorcycles.
Today, people are doing back flips on snowmobiles...

And yes, I am sure it has been done in a boat, just not on purpose...... :D :D :D

Wow, he really is an angry Irish man....

Of course, you have to wonder how much of this chest thumpin, gold wearin egomaniacial straight line wars there would be if the boat manufacturers had had somewhere organized to race for the past several years instead of poker runs..

Todays poker runs are the proving ground anymore. They get as much and even more publicity as offshore racing. And, in a poker run it is the first boat to the stops that gets the bragging rights, not the alleged world champion..

DPT I'm not 100% on this but isn't Reggie only a employee of Fountain Powerboats, didn't he loose the company several years back. He had spent to much of the company's moneys on racing technology's and bankrupt the company. I think they are owned now by the Brunswick Co. isn't that Bayliner also great reputation they have. I remember reading that in powerboat magazine. Last time i looked a 37 year old guy Mike Fiorie owns Outerlimits. he must be doing something rite. I think Mike should just keep things the way they are, it seems to work for him.

DPT, i don't think mike is trying to sell race boats, he is trying to sell high dollar poker run boats, and this type of thing is important to somebody laying out 500k or 1M for a boat, its about bragging rights.... some of you guys are taking this too personally, this is about two guys with big egos, its not about racing or the better boat or anything, it is whoever can put two good engines, which neither one builds themselves, into a lightweight, severly limited use hull, and gets lucky with the weather, water and fate that day..... and nobody takes straight line speed seriously? tell that to the boats that show up for the LOTO shootout or numerous other radar runs around the country..... i see offshore racing fractured and dying and poker runs growing and thriving.... which builder is on the right path?

We saw the back of their boats at the finish lines and they saw the back of ours. There was PLENTY of competition & one of the CIGARETTES won the worlds with us in second (on one engine with a blown coupler).
As far as all the "OL guys" talking trash, I believe it is the other way around.
Finally, why on earth should Outerlimits (the factory) go racing???? They are booked over two years building boats that start around $350K. Do you think racing would be a good business plan?
